If you click on Artists from the main page it says sold out, but if you click on Prints it shows available.

Anyone flipping these for pennies is making a mistake. The rabbit, elephant and poodle all hammer for £5-10k+ at decent auction houses, this one is stronger IMO and once it finds its level will be in line with the Elephant. Patience will be rewarded for those who wait it out.

Totally agree, half tempted to snap one up and £3k and hold for a year before auctioning. Just so difficult to mentally get over the hurdle that people 24 hours before got theirs for a third of the price. Such is life!

You don’t spend 3k on a Shrigley edition unless you want it on your wall.
Even if you can sell at auction for 6-8k hammer (which I’d never bank on given the volume of stuff he comes out with these days), it that margin really worth it?

It seems the as or more humourous than the elephant, but not as clever as the rabbit one. I think 1) Rabbit 2) Duck 3) Elephant 4) Whale 5) Dog

David Shrigley • Stop Panicking , by LJCal on May 2, 2021 21:48:36 GMT 1, As a relative newcomer to this forum a lot of threads appears to be about buying art for short term profit making. I do wonder how many of these prints end up on the wall and staying there from the 1st set of buyers ? Just throwing it out there - 50 / 50 ? Depends on the artist for Shrigley editions sub 50%. Given most prints cost thousands to tens of thousands the idea that people buy these for the love of the art whilst romantic is flawed, you can buy open edition posters of DS for about £30 if you're into the images and not buying for investment.

I'd agree the dog is at the lower end, and the elephant and rabbit are as good as the goose. Colourwise it is also the most catchy being the pink/red... strongest and most vibrant colour, its funny and the strapline will resonate with a lot of people in these times. I reckon on a par with the elephant once filppers run out of ammo. Just my opinion. I actually really like this one so going to hang in my daughters room (she loves it) and see if the market agrees with me over the next year or two.

Somehow colourwise it is the most memorable even though I don't lkke.pink. And also it seems like it is actually the goose saying it so its very appropriate. I may be biased as its the only animal one I have...

David Shrigley • Stop Panicking , by Horatio Nelson on May 2, 2021 22:43:37 GMT 1, My Rampage has been up on the wall for just over two years. Had to buy of eBay as I missed the Jealous run, but paid a smidge over £1k. Also have another of his non-animal prints up in the office.
I find the idea of buying a Shrigley at source and heading straight to eBay (or even waiting 6-12 months for a proper auction) just a bit of a soulless thing to do. For sure it’s essentially free money if you do that. But there’s got to be more original and innovative ways to make money than reselling Shrigleys?

It's only in the past year his prices have suddenly gone up. Wonder why. I dont have that big an issue with flipping , I guess essentially everything sold in shops is a version of flipping, as are art dealers but on a different level

David Shrigley • Stop Panicking , by Horatio Nelson on May 2, 2021 23:04:02 GMT 1, I don’t mean to preach about flipping.
I noted a few months ago in days/weeks after the Rabbit release that there were about 10 or 11 on eBay. And I’m sure many who bought some of those off eBay weren’t looking to hold beyond the medium term. The market’s a pretty weird place but it’s typical of lots of non-financial asset classes at the moment. Indicative of asset price inflation and low interest rate environment.

I don’t think I’ve ever read a post about art like this before! I’m not being critical of you at all. We just live in very different worlds I think. I don’t even understand what you wrote. I read it twice. My thought process tends to be - do I like it - do I love it - do I want it on my wall - can I afford it?

David Shrigley • Stop Panicking , by LJCal on May 3, 2021 3:12:11 GMT 1, I'm sure plenty of people on here have enough money to buy what they like, when they like and not worry about how the work performs financially, I'd love to be in that posiition but have to graft to get the works I want on the wall. Unfortunately given the price of art (even editions) many people have to consider the investment merits of a piece, when prints start costing tens or hundreds of thousands it's no longer just an impulse buy. Nothing wrong with either person and the diversity is positive in my view.
