Millo Solo Show, by Humble Art Collector on Apr 29, 2021 18:49:26 GMT 1, Millo is having his first solo show in the USA. I have had a chance to see the works and in my opinion are the best of his career. For those that do not know millo he is a large scale muralist from Italy. His images typically are of a black and white urban landscape with colorful vignette happening in the middle. They are always thought provoking, visually stimulating with a lot of hidden easter eggs in the landscape. Millo is an artists on the rise with few works available so this is a great opportunity to buy a piece from one of the best large mural painters active right now.
The show is at ThinkSpace in LA. Definitely worth a look.
The image below is not from the show but from my personal collection!

Millo Solo Show, by artzzzy on Apr 29, 2021 19:29:16 GMT 1, I really like his street art and large scale work, but not into collecting his canvas etc.
The prices thinkspace is asking are absurd! You could pick up his works here in italy for 2/3K.
But anyway very happy for him. He’s a talented artist and it’s nice to see him get more recognized internationally.

Millo Solo Show, by Humble Art Collector on Apr 30, 2021 0:57:14 GMT 1, There is NO WAY you can pick up an original Millo canvas work for 2/3K in any country. He has only done 3 solo shows and the last one I know of was at Dorothy Circus Gallery in 2019. These prices are completely in line with that factoring world inflation. The Dorothy Circus show sold out on opening night. With < 10-12 canvases a year I think the prices Thinkspace has are more than fair especially given the quality of this work, how few canvases exist, and how prolific he is on the streets. I think he produces more street works than canvas works per year. Hopefully this is the start of more solo shows (at least one a year).
As you can tell I am a fan. His was one of the very first paintings I added to our "street art" collection when I started collecting. He was a MUST HAVE and still is a cornerstone to our collection. Speaking from experience his prices have not risen that much over the years. I would guess 20% year over year which is normal for an artist on the rise. Looking at many of the artists in our collection he is in the mid range for price appreciation. Of course many stall our or even decrease in value as well. Over all you have to buy art for love not investment especially when it comes to living artists. You never know what will happen when they are still living.
During Covid he did a charity painting that he turned into a print (as well for charity). As far as I know he does very limited prints as well so any form of original is hard to come by.

Millo Solo Show, by Humble Art Collector on May 1, 2021 20:13:46 GMT 1, Show opening in 3 hours. 8 works already on hold / sold. I wish I had the budget for a second piece so many good works in this show. If anyone goes to the opening can you take pictures and share? Does anyone know if there will be a print?

Millo Solo Show, by artzzzy on May 1, 2021 20:22:12 GMT 1, 90% of their shows sell out completely way before the opening (like most other galleries).
Works on-hold doesn’t mean anything really.. Just a term galleries use to stimulate the market and get people to buy.
They really pushed it with the prices and that’s why it’s not selling that fast. They should have had a bit lower prices as it’s his first show and he doesn’t have a follow in the US.

Millo Solo Show, by Humble Art Collector on May 1, 2021 21:48:21 GMT 1, To me the prices we not too crazy high. The 3 largest paintings where "high" feeling but then you looked at the dimensions they actually were fairly priced. All the smaller paintings were completely on the mark. Also pictures do not do his work justice. You really need to see them to truly appreciate the quality / skill. It is interesting how the camera can help or hurt artwork. I have been fooled in both directions many times. I guess that is why knowing an artists works helps or a forum where people can vouch. I have a few OGs that I regret but sooooo many I was pleasantly surprised with.

Millo Solo Show, by artzzzy on May 1, 2021 22:15:49 GMT 1, It’s not the camera.. it’s photoshop!
All galleries photoshop artworks removing imperfections, increasing color contrast etc
The other day ai was discussing a very large artwork with a gallery and asking a few questions I discovered they even removed the joints between the canvas making it look in the photos as if it were painted as a one unique piece!!
That’s why I always ask for photos from different angles and also a video of the artworks before making decisions to buy them.
