Propper print storage , by crappydonuts on May 8, 2021 23:46:51 GMT 1, New to all this and Ive looked around on here for info and read tons of stuff but Iโm still up in the air about what direction to go. I need advice on proper print storage. The main parameters are as follows:
1) for art that canโt currently be displayed on walls. mostly for 18x24 and 24x36. Some smaller and some larger but mostly those 2 sizes
2) looking for longer term storage, that keeps them in good shape
3) Iโm in the US, so looking for a solution thatโs easy to grab here.
4) looking to add to the collection as time goes so need something that will continue to work or a solution that I can repeat for many prints.
5) if you have advice, explain it to me like a child, starting at step 1. Like I said Iโm new to this and want to learn and take care of the things I pickup.
6) thanks everyone for any help!!!! ๐

Gotta go for a flat file for anything larger. Unfortunately many flat files max out around that size too though. Cheap non professional option is two giant pieces of acid free foamboard. Stick the print between those and tuck it away flat and protected..

With that method do you put the print in anything or just stack in tissue paper between every print?

Flat, in acid free sleeves with a sheet of glassine paper between the artwork and the sleeve. Sleeves from Clearbags, model RPA, many sizes. Glassine paper, Canson Glassine paper is the best. You can buy rolls on Amazon. b. Smaller prints, up to 18x24" = ITOYA Art Profolio. Depending by the print, same sleeve+glassine concept + slide into folder's sleeve or just into the folder's sleeve. c. If you have space, get yourself a print cabinet. There are many also at auctions/wholesale markets. d. I lack of space at home so I have opted for a vertical solution I found recently, it's called VFile. There are many sizes. The biggest one, that I also have, is the VFile43 for 30x42" prints. You can also find them on Overstock.
Very helpful info here. Iโve seen the itoya and baroque portfolios out there but didnโt know how well they work and protect print. Plus I just imagined as the collection grows having to get a bunch more portfolios to hold everything.

Propper print storage , by bestdj777 on May 13, 2021 2:05:47 GMT 1, I store my extra prints in 24x36 toploaders (link below) in a water resistant portfolio (link below) and then keep the portfolio flat to avoid any strain on it. You have to be careful putting the prints in toploaders (itโs worked for my baseball cards so I figured why not art) to avoid damaging them but Iโm pretty confident they are secure once they are in. And, the portfolio gives me some confidence in the event anything is spilled on it, etc. I probably shouldnโt, but Iโve doubled up the prints on occasion and just throw an acid free sheet between them (not sure where I got them).
