Framing costs, by punk77 on May 9, 2021 17:32:25 GMT 1, I know off the shelf frames compared to paying a professional are not like for like just to be clear. Trouble for me is that low value prints cost 2-3 times to frame compared to value. Take a Stik giveaway folded poster 50 x 50 cms framed with no mount.
Off the shelf frame. ยฃ15 + acid free backing card and tape ยฃ25 tot + non reflective uv glass ยฃ50-75 total
Two local framers and gallery want ยฃ125 to ยฃ190. With no extras. Woumd not even look more professional
I can save a lot of money Part framing myself, but when i want float look or mounts and corners i expect to pay considerably more.
These are small posters and whilst i am happy to pay more for expertise and to frame dearer items i realy need to find a framer who is realistic . Located 10 miles west of london

Framing costs, by dunkers on May 9, 2021 18:01:11 GMT 1, Framing with mounts or float framing isnโt that hard. buy the right materials, and there is a really good series of tutorials on YouTube and the fine art guild website
Taking the example of the stik book print, I bought a custom sized frame with Uv acrylic, conservation mount and conservation backboard for less than ยฃ70 online then framed it myself.
Costs a couple of quid for the tapes but if you have several prints to frame and are comfortable doing it yourself then itโs much cheaper.

Framing costs, by dunkers on May 9, 2021 18:28:39 GMT 1, Tutorials (videos r1 to r12) www.fineart.co.uk/framing-videos-cpd.aspx
Tapes: www.preservationequipment.com/
Frames with glazing and boards all made to size: www.bramptonframing.com or www.easyframe.co.uk
Brampton do uv glass but only ship glass to a certain size. easy frame do uv acrylic. From experience Brampton are better built frames.
Watch the tutorials before you buy anything!
Plus you will make some mistakes on the way (I certainly have) so probably worth practicing just with blank paper first and stick to framing cheap items and use a pro for anything of value to you or when you want to be sure the work is to true archival or conservation standard

Framing costs, by broke on May 9, 2021 22:15:17 GMT 1, Prices sound 'realistic' to me.
If your after a cheaper framer, look for someone without a shop front and has no staff. A large bulk of the cost will be overheads.
I have seen some truly shocking DIY framing jobs in the past. Watching and understanding the videos posted above is all well and good, but its easy to bugger up your artwork. if you are planning on doing it yourself, please practice first. there are also lots of things that these videos don't cover...
Just buying the correct tapes could easily set you back ยฃ40-ยฃ50
My advice would be to find a framer you trust and pay the extra.
