Smug One in Carlisle - looking for forum support, by Daylight Robber on May 31, 2021 12:50:29 GMT 1, Ok guys. I'm hoping for some forum support. Smug One's latest mural, in Carlisle has made it through to the finals of Street Art Cities Mural of the month.
The piece depicts Belatucadros, a Celtic god of war, ripping down Hadrians wall and taking on the Romans. It's painted on a building that sits on West Walls, which itself is located on the site of one of the Roman forts which supported the garrison of Hadrian's Wall. The significance of the piece and where it is located isnt immediately obvious to those who dont know the city's history, but its definitely contributed to the positive reception its had locally.
As is often the case photos don't do the piece justice, but it is a pretty special piece and a bit of a coup for Carlisle, which is playing catch up when it comes to Street Art.
A good showing in the Steeet Art Cities monthly finals would do the world of good for more local support in Carlisle. There's a great programme of works planned but it all needs funding. Being able to demonstrate the level a small city like Carlisle is already operating at will undoubtedly assist with funding applications and help to get more pieces up.
If the forum would be so kind as to lend us your votes it would be hugely appreciated.

And if anyone wants to discuss the art itself, feel free.

Smug One in Carlisle - looking for forum support, by mrizzle on Jun 2, 2021 17:48:40 GMT 1, Got my vote (and an additional bump). I love Smaug’s pieces in Aberdeen and across Glasgow. An artist that I feel very much deserves recognition.
