i try not to get into the financials too much, as my job is to provide unbiased medical care to all-comers...but i rarely (if ever) hear of people being turned upside down by it. most younger patients that need an aortic or mitral valve procedure performed are fully covered before they get into my operating room. older (>65) are covered by medicare.

Maybe he/ she needs funds to pay for living expenses after the surgery, like during the recovery period? The recovery period might keep them out of work for a month or two.

Not all of us are born into a perfect job with perfect parents handing us shit.
