Damien Hirst, The Currency, NFT, by DB on Jul 14, 2021 9:17:41 GMT 1, Would you get some sort of COA still if you chose the original?
Or is that the whole thing, you either buy a digital COA or you get the Original artwork without a COA?

Damien Hirst, The Currency, NFT, by Horatio Nelson on Jul 14, 2021 9:36:34 GMT 1, I didn’t realise the “either or” element and that you could ultimately end up with delivery of the work.
Whilst an experiment with the results yet to be determined, it looks to me as if this may well (and is intended to) undermine NFTs. That might explain why you have a smiling Mark Carney going along with this.

I believe it's mentioned in the video.

Damien Hirst, The Currency, NFT, by The Italian One on Jul 14, 2021 10:07:53 GMT 1, thinking of getting 2 .... one will end up in the wall and one in my ledger (if I will be brave enough on choosing one original Hirst will be destroyed )
this will be the first NFT from Hirst and the first NFT in my collection.
I don't like the image that much, but I want to be part of this experiment

Damien Hirst, The Currency, NFT, by Pattycakes on Jul 14, 2021 10:50:20 GMT 1, Coming up with 10,000 titles takes some doing, let alone signing and numbering all these. Having the option of keeping the physical edition nearly swayed me, but not enough. The titles were computer generated based on a song he likes

Damien Hirst, The Currency, NFT, by Pattycakes on Jul 14, 2021 10:58:05 GMT 1, This is not a new idea by any means, it's just a very 21st century take on the Monte Carlo bond that Marcel Duchamp issued in 1924, those were an edition of 30 this is 10,000 and comes with an NFT kicker.

Damien Hirst, The Currency, NFT, by orchid on Jul 14, 2021 11:24:13 GMT 1, Compared to his last edition The Virtues there were around 7500 in total. Now I could get an original artwork for 2k. Supposedly all works are different and even named different. So, basically you get a small original artwork for 2k. If that is right it seems to be a pretty good deal. Image if someone told you 5 days ago you could get hold of a DH for 2k... Am I missing something here?
Nope. Bet the laminated giclee buyers are gutted.

Damien Hirst, The Currency, NFT, by aumi on Jul 14, 2021 11:34:25 GMT 1, I'm still confused. 1. Has Damien Hirst really produced 10,000 originals? How long would that take you? 2. Has Damien Hirst really numbered, titled and signed 10,000 pieces of paper? How long would that take you? 3. Are Heni really going to keep 10,000 originals in their vault? How big is this 'vault' of theirs? 4. Are you really given the option of keeping the NFT or having the original artwork? If so, who in their right mind would choose a token rather than the real thing? That's like choosing an e-mail from Banksy or having a signed Banksy on the wall. None of this really adds up. I guess that is why he called it an experiment. No one knows what the fuck is going on in the end. But a Hirst OG for 2k is a fair deal.

Damien Hirst, The Currency, NFT, by Elmekuderan on Jul 14, 2021 11:36:54 GMT 1, Look into Hirst processes. Storing is no problem, how many pieces of paper in a book. (also think it are larger works cut up.) Guess ppl just understand the mindfuck when it's a physical artwork instead of a digital one, but in this case it's actually redeemable.

They apparently give the buyer the option.

2. It is a little known fact that DH has a robotic left hand and can sign his name over 10,000 times per day with little strain to the rest of his body or indeed his mind.
3. They are A4 in size in a slightly larger fitted box, I am sure someone good at maths can work out the Sqm footage needed to store them, but I doubt it would need to be that large.
4. Yes you have 2 months to decide on placing your hard earned dosh into physical art (which you will receive after it has been displayed in 1 year) or hold electronically as a shiny NFT

Damien Hirst, The Currency, NFT, by Happy Shopper on Jul 14, 2021 13:05:47 GMT 1, I guess the interesting part will be if the NFTs start trading for more or less than the 2k price over the 2 month decision period.
If they continue to go up, do you trade for the original, which might not sell for so much?? (Assuming crazy crypto fans go mad for the NFT version more than the paintings !?).
Or, will prices rise in the first 2 months, as people scramble to buy before the time limit to swap, then drop heavily after?
