Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Pattycakes on Jul 14, 2021 11:52:04 GMT 1, I'm still confused. 1. Has Damien Hirst really produced 10,000 originals? How long would that take you? 2. Has Damien Hirst really numbered, titled and signed 10,000 pieces of paper? How long would that take you? 3. Are Heni really going to keep 10,000 originals in their vault? How big is this 'vault' of theirs? 4. Are you really given the option of keeping the NFT or having the original artwork? If so, who in their right mind would choose a token rather than the real thing? That's like choosing an e-mail from Banksy or having a signed Banksy on the wall. None of this really adds up. 1. Probably done by assistants. Given you can make 10 a day, 10 asistants would make them in 4 months. 2. Maybe, or signed by assistants 3. That are small works on papier, storage is not an issue. 4. They apparently give the buyer the option. 1. Definitely done by assistants - he has never made any apologies for using them - nor should he it's perfectly normal practice, always has been.
2. It is a little known fact that DH has a robotic left hand and can sign his name over 10,000 times per day with little strain to the rest of his body or indeed his mind.
3. They are A4 in size in a slightly larger fitted box, I am sure someone good at maths can work out the Sqm footage needed to store them, but I doubt it would need to be that large.
4. Yes you have 2 months to decide on placing your hard earned dosh into physical art (which you will receive after it has been displayed in 1 year) or hold electronically as a shiny NFT

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by ak1 on Jul 14, 2021 12:29:42 GMT 1, Compared to his last edition The Virtues there were around 7500 in total. Now I could get an original artwork for 2k. Supposedly all works are different and even named different. So, basically you get a small original artwork for 2k. If that is right it seems to be a pretty good deal. Image if someone told you 5 days ago you could get hold of a DH for 2k... Am I missing something here? Nope. Bet the laminated giclee buyers are gutted. Was only a matter of time on the big shiny giclees. Well done to anyone who managed to move one on before this.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Happy Shopper on Jul 14, 2021 13:05:47 GMT 1, I guess the interesting part will be if the NFTs start trading for more or less than the 2k price over the 2 month decision period.
If they continue to go up, do you trade for the original, which might not sell for so much?? (Assuming crazy crypto fans go mad for the NFT version more than the paintings !?).
Or, will prices rise in the first 2 months, as people scramble to buy before the time limit to swap, then drop heavily after?

You can make that decision starting in 2 months.
โThey will have one year, until 3pm BST on 27th July 2022 to decide to keep either the digital NFT or the physical artwork. โ

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by badgersurf on Jul 14, 2021 13:46:17 GMT 1, Interesting article in the Bloomberg, clarifies a bit more:
www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-07-14/damien-hirst-the-currency-artworks-10-000-pieces-for-2-000-each
People can sign up to purchase a piece from the Currency for the next seven days. Near the end of July, buyers will receive NFTs of their artworks and will be able to buy and sell them as they please on Hageโs website, Heni, or in Niftys, an online marketplace.
After two months have elapsed, an owner of a work can choose to redeem the NFT for the physical artwork, at which point the digital artwork and NFT will be destroyed; or they can hold onto the NFT, andโafter a year has gone byโHirst will exhibit the unclaimed artworks and then destroy them.

People will try and resell these for insane prices but 9,999 others out there of the same image.

Half the concept/promo of nfts is reselling and the artist receiving more cash. Flipping doesn't come into it.

Yes, but when there's 10k of them and they are almost indistinguishable from another. Not a typical OG in my opinion.
I'm still on the fence if I'd rather have this OG or one of the cherry blossom prints. I'm not fan of these prints as they look too flat for me, but assuming i was, would i prefer a huge great looking print or a small editioned OG.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Art Buy Guy on Jul 14, 2021 14:06:50 GMT 1, I wonder if the (AI generated) titles of the works don't have value too? I think so, actually.
From that point of view, the possibility to trade should also make a lot of sense for one or the other.
