Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Inknart on Jul 28, 2021 4:01:30 GMT 1, It's not moral. It's personal. And the best thing is to have the choice. I applaud the artist for extending the reach of this personal decision. He's asking us to think for ourselves, using his art as the medium. As has been well travailed, physical money that we trade has no intrinsic value. It's literally a promise, a whim, a handshake. Damien Hirst is a hack that likes marketing and money . He's the Thomas Kincaid of the current generation.
Lol, my parents have a storage unit full of old Marty Bell and Thomas Kinkade stuff.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by netforeignquotient on Jul 28, 2021 4:09:01 GMT 1, You could print a super high resolution image for free on the HENI website which would look great on yer wall and it’s free. So the only reason whatsoever in keeping the painting is to only be interested in it’s monetary potential. The only reason whatsoever???!!! I disagree. Im keeping mine because it allows me to own an original DH painting, something I'd imagine most on here, like me, could only dream of. I have no intention of selling it. Its monetary value is of secondary importance. One day my kids will benefit perhaps, but I doubt I will. I'll just take pleasure in looking at it, just as we do with all our art, knowing I bought it for a steal...and THAT being the monetary angle I keep thinking about. I was just switching around a previous poster's words for effect.
What's the difference between a Currency painting and the corresponding NFT? What's the difference between any original and an exact copy? Do they have the same utility? Do/should they have the same monetary value if the utility is the same? Are you happy to own an original DH or happy to have bought one for a steal (or both)? If someone secretly swapped out an original painting hanging on your wall for an exact copy, and you didn't notice, would you enjoy the copy less than you enjoy the original? Does it matter? These are the questions that are raised by this whole excercise, which I think is brilliant. Congrats on snagging one.

This is fake news. You can't even find a bookstore or magazine stand in NYC anymore. Maybe there is one/two in each borough. Have you been to the airports ?
Yes I have been and half the magazines are gone since a decade ago.
It always been your agenda to hate on heni releases yet you secretly buy them. We get it already.

Well you could basically print any artwork, and these are called posters. If it's just about the image reproduction what's the point of fine art?

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Dubman on Jul 28, 2021 8:54:41 GMT 1, Look at this thread almost 50 pages of debate, speculation, disagreement, piss taking and wonder.
Love DH or hate him you cant deny the genius of the man to have created all this 'activity', conversation and opinion.
The discord forum is ablaze with chatter (my 14 year old son was in hysterics I was on it - Im 49 lol) and I think its the start of a new era of how we see art, currency, commerce and trade.
And not so new to some but to me its a new world that I am loving learning about, researching and getting involved with - I never knew what a hardware wallet was on Monday - but now i have one.
I didn't think I gave a shit or was bothered by this drop, until I got one, which I was absolutely buzzing about (and still am) - will I keep the paper (I have no walls left and mine is called 'Burn to Ashes' so go figure) or will I NFT? Who knows, but I love being a part of this experiment and of this conversation.
Its massively intriguing to me that we are all inadvertently a part of 'this body of work', every owner or opinion contributes to it. It's an organic work of art, breathing and changing direction every day.
Its bonkers, blown my mind, not about the money for me at this stage I know I wont have to worry either way but Im fascinated to see where this will go.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Schrödinger's Chat on Jul 28, 2021 9:00:35 GMT 1, I decided to dip into the discord group chat, I don't think I will again.
It seemed like occasional useful info mixed with mainly a barrage of people asking the same questions again and again e.g. When exactly will the nft arrive on the 29th, what are the next stages, why so secretive etc.
I'm sure we used to be much more patient as a people, and would let things happen in the fullness of time. Does anyone remember when you had to allow up to 28 days for delivery! I used to spend all my pocket money on importing hip hop vinyl and tapes, it would take an age to arrive from the US.

I think that’s what happens when you 9000 people buy something that they don’t really know what it is 😂

Fair point, but I was really thinking about the fact that we have all been told they arrive on the 29th and it varies depending on time zone, no really value in repeatedly asking for a more specific time slot. Knowing its coming on the 29th feels sufficient to me.
Yet on discord every third question this morning seemed to be asking when exactly will I received the nft.

True, but when you were ordering all of your old vinyl from the US, if you had a direct link to the distributor on instant chat are you saying you wouldn't be double checking delivery dates / progress on shipping etc?
I don't think we have less patience, I just think we have more access and instant information.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by eliopp on Jul 28, 2021 10:04:03 GMT 1, Good for Hirst creating these conversations. The price is small enough and the image is small enough that you actually debate whether to keep it as an NFT or not. Don’t think anyone here would be having these debates if they were regarding his other originals and pieces that would be over millions You could get a decent photoshop ready super high resolution image for free on the HENI website which would look great on yer mega TV and it’s free. So the only reason whatsoever in keeping the NFT is to only be interested in it’s monetary potential - The Filthy Lucre rather than love of the artist’s work, a neat, kinda sweet lil’ original Hirst for a very do-able cost. Almost makes in a moral question now I think
And you can buy fake Banksy prints. But most on here choose not to. Same principle.

What Heni actually say is:
We will be sending out NFTs from July 29
So, no guarantees everyone will get theirs on 29th, just that it will arrive sometime on or after that date.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by zacksz 123123 on Jul 28, 2021 13:00:54 GMT 1, Love to see all the people who suddenly believe in NFTs after owning one instead of prior.
With NFTs down 90% since the beginning of the year, I’m surprised there isn’t more conversation about how Damien just used this avenue to produce 10,000 works and rack in a quick 20m. If he produced these 10,000 works before NFT platform (which he did if we look at the dates), imagine the kickback of producing 10,000 so-called originals…
Legends barely reach this number in general. Picasso produced an estimated 10-40k works in a 75 year period.

Compared to most of those people now who have metamask wallets, seed phrases and about to learn what an exchange and burn is (and potentially having to buy some crypto to pay for it)
Progress.
