Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Deleted on Jul 27, 2021 17:12:24 GMT 1, It's all so very confusing
Bang it in a frame, chuck it on the wall
Old school.
Looking forward to watching the kids moan to me in a few years when I explain how I had the choice and chose analogue over digital

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by rockbeer on Jul 27, 2021 18:03:18 GMT 1, This is what every photographer and magazine said right before the iPad came out. "It won't kill magazines... I love the feel of paper" Yeah I saw what happened just in a couple years to those magazines... dead and they were big ones as well. I think every industry should take note that technology can definitely someday drastically affect your market/business unless you prepare yourself. Art galleries and the art world definitely can be next. Just talk to taxi drivers in nyc... if they are still around. Magazines are still very much alive and well. Go in to any newsagent and you will soon see for yourself. They said the same about books when Kindles came out. They prophesied the death of paperback books but actually the opposite has happened. E-book sales still only account for a tiny proportion of book sales and paperbacks are having a bit of a revival right now. Part of the covid effect apparently.
Print magazine sales have been in steady decline over the last decade. Total sales value is roughly half what it was a decade ago. There does seem to have been a bit of a ‘covid bounce’ but it’s hard to see it being sustained in the long term.
The magazines that are doing well are those that are successful in digital form. Digital sales often subsidise a loss-making print edition, I believe.
I do think there’s a fundamental market difference between essentially disposable magazines, and books, which lots of people like to gift and keep.

I can’t see the logic in destroying them as it then changes the number of works available. More likely they may be kept for heni or Damien hirst. The only problem is if they send more emails you won’t have 48 hours to pay

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by eliopp on Jul 27, 2021 18:23:29 GMT 1, I think the main question here is, how do we get the attention of the deep pocket having nft crypto crowd? If cyber punk nft’s are getting that much, surely a Hirst original nft will garner a shit ton of money too?🤷🏻♂️ I’d love to cash in my $2k Hirst for the new Porsche GT3😂
Don't worry, they are already interested.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by samo on Jul 27, 2021 18:41:40 GMT 1, Thanks, this is helpful. Especially this, from the sending/transferring link: I wonder how much panic will ensue on or after July 29th amongst people who will quite reasonably conclude their NFT has gone astray when in fact they’re using a browser extension in which it will never appear. I predict that Heni will be busy. What the.... That's insane! What's the point in having a metamask extension on your browser if it doesn't show NFTs? You can sync your MetaMask extension wallet with MetaMask mobile by using the MetaMask Mobile Sync feature.

So weird to admit how much I've been thinking about it, but I actually dreamt about receiving the Heni email and being ecstatic about it... until realizing it was an email congratulating me for being able to purchase a weird Hirst sculpture from his pharmacy works (not my favorite) and not one of these artworks.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Extra Ball on Jul 27, 2021 18:58:29 GMT 1, just a question ...
if the paper work is burnt like the morons of injective protocol to make a new nft.
Will this one be more valuable than the original nft?

I’m not sure mounting it on a piece of wood is really changing it though is it? My point was that it looks very similar to The Currency paintings, done at the same time, approx the same dimensions of the paper that it’s painted on etc. I’m not saying it is identical, but sticking it on a piece of wood is hardly transformational…
You could just say “oh yeah it is on paper, sorry I misread that”…

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Georgie Poppit on Jul 27, 2021 22:10:58 GMT 1, I saw this piece at Christies and totally forgot about it. I don't remeber being that impressed by it but that's before it became a big thing. I do think the physical (Currency) works will have an upper limit pricewise, maybe £10k. If the NFTs go beyond that price there will be some tough decisions.

Top sale price will definitely go above 10k IMO for the NFT. People pay silly sums with ETH and BTC.
Problem is if you try and sell it would you get that? The peak will be over 10k but whether you will achieve that yourself is anyone's guess.

This is fake news.
You can't even find a bookstore or magazine stand in NYC anymore. Maybe there is one/two in each borough.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by daveyuk on Jul 28, 2021 0:42:31 GMT 1, A quick question... Why do they all look very much the same? Even the least dense ones and the most dense ones look the same to me. Wouldn't it have been nice to have a few that only had a dozen dots on them? Or ones that had only pale yellow dots on them? Or ones that were a combination of all different shades of red and no other colour? They could have made some very interesting ones...but they didn't. A wasted opportunity. That’s so true and sadly quite hilarious that the great artist couldn’t just to something more interesting, in less time, and have each piece be more obviously unique
…it’s like one of his clearly clever People daren’t mention it , like the Emperors New Clothes 😂

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by daveyuk on Jul 28, 2021 1:10:05 GMT 1, This is thought provoking. I never really thought of that. There will be tech like you describe, and if/when NFT’s catch on, companies will fill the void of consumers wanting to display their NFT art, in the best way possible, resembling a physical painting on a wall. Essentially the consumers of this NFT project will have a Hirst original that’s as large as the digital file will go before pixelating, which could be huge, compared to the small physical one. Fuck me, that really is something to think about. Good for Hirst creating these conversations. The price is small enough and the image is small enough that you actually debate whether to keep it as an NFT or not. Don’t think anyone here would be having these debates if they were regarding his other originals and pieces that would be over millions You could get a decent photoshop ready super high resolution image for free on the HENI website which would look great on yer mega TV and it’s free. So the only reason whatsoever in keeping the NFT is to only be interested in it’s monetary potential - The Filthy Lucre rather than love of the artist’s work, a neat, kinda sweet lil’ original Hirst for a very do-able cost.
Almost makes in a moral question now I think

It's not moral. It's personal.
And the best thing is to have the choice.
I applaud the artist for extending the reach of this personal decision. He's asking us to think for ourselves, using his art as the medium.
As has been well travailed, physical money that we trade has no intrinsic value. It's literally a promise, a whim, a handshake.
