Hirst claims £15m in loans, by seventhsealed on Jul 29, 2021 16:28:29 GMT 1, "The British artist Damien Hirst laid off 63 people in one of his studios last October, while he claimed £15m in emergency Covid-19 loans from the UK government and took advantage of the furlough scheme."
www.theartnewspaper.com/news/damien-hirst-redundancies
This isn't a great look, is it? I've always had mixed feelings about Hirst. He certainly knows how to work the market and he has created some interesting ideas but he often comes across as extremely unlikeable. Having said that, he seems likeable in the Currency video with Fry. And, I have bought two previous Hirst editions for my partner (rainbow and Forever).
Some of the sculptures - like those currently at YSP - are great too but it'd be good to know how much input he actually has in those.
This sort of confirms that I don't like him though. I got an edition of The Currency so it'll be interesting to see how this effects it, if at all.

Hirst claims £15m in loans, by kfroms on Jul 29, 2021 16:53:38 GMT 1, Whoever moans about this has no idea of how you run a company and what personal wealth means. The biggest corporations in the world have reduced workforce and taken on loans / bail-outs. Normal, its what you do. Its a loan, you have to pay it back.

I mean, if you look at my previous posts I am looking at selling. But my partner owns half.

Hirst claims £15m in loans, by seventhsealed on Jul 29, 2021 17:27:48 GMT 1, As for the outrage, I think a lot of people are annoyed at lots of aspects of it and how this seems to have helped so many quite a lot more than others.
I know about wetherspoons so don't need an education on that or Martin's past but thanks.

Hirst claims £15m in loans, by avec art on Jul 29, 2021 17:49:52 GMT 1, this falls within the topic of whether we can separate the artist from their work. I'm sure many of you wouldn't think twice about using Gill sans typeface

Once, in secondary school, I was obsessed with the work of J.B. Priestley. I was looking him up in an encyclopedia and saw that he had had an affair. This really made me mad - to the point that I ripped the page out. An Inspector Calls is still one of my all time favourite plays though.

Hirst claims £15m in loans, by amz on Jul 29, 2021 18:56:01 GMT 1, An interesting article. I'm not sure why people are outraged though. If there is no work coming up for his assistants to do then it seems logical to make them redundant. Or are people saying that because he is filthy rich, he should pay his staff to sit around all day and do nothing?
That’s the point. Laying off his workers while taking government loans. Which is obviously not to pay the workers he’s just laid off.

Which is obviously not to pay the workers he’s just laid off. Government loans are not there for employers to keep on staff that they don't actually need anymore. Why would anyone take out a loan for that?
They’re for financial aid. If you’re already making the cuts then I don’t think you need the loans especially when you’re thriving during the pandemic…
Maybe it’s an unpopular opinion but I think there r plenty of small businesses that could have done with the loans they couldn’t get.

There's a lot more secondary sales being sold every week than what he sells primary.
