Fake Banksy , by startimeash on Sept 1, 2021 16:44:21 GMT 1, I complained to the auctioneers about this; told them straight out it was a fake. No reply. Have done the same with the Dismaland “free art” as well with other auctioneers and even pointing out the Pest Control page that says it doesn’t exist isn’t enough for them to pull it. Auctioneers get away with so much, and not just in art; the amount of fake watches that go through them is insane, and some are even advertised as fakes! Seems to be no comeback at all; if you complain then they’ll refund. I bought what turned out to be a fake Lichtenstein via one house; complained and they refunded me and banned my account from their site…

Fake Banksy , by woodman on Sept 1, 2021 20:35:47 GMT 1, I also complained and got told they do not sell fakes and do everything possible to check authenticity. I then got a reply stating I would get a reply with what the vendor tells them - gone blank for days. I was expecting it to get pulled but it hasn't, hence why I highlighted it on here.
Could go down the route of just winning it with a monster bid and tell them to see me in court? What could they realistically do.
I also do know a freelance reporter, I might get him on the case to expose them and he can earn a few quid out of it.

Yeah, the reporter route sounds good - make the fuckers justify themselves in the press!

That's a joke. So it's alright to commit fraud as long as its below £65k🙄 I expect if the auction house are doing nothing to remove this, then they are probably doing it a lot more often.

Fake Banksy , by Lroy on Sept 7, 2021 10:13:20 GMT 1, Bids on 20 grand now with a few hours left. Auction refusing to reply to any emails. Disgusting. In fact they do'nt care about. *Someone of my close entourage bought on Catawiki a 6k bat from ( supposed or stolen ) Invader - with the marble around, so heavy that he can't nail it ! - , and he even got a COA from the Paris Galery that sold it - with location etc ...
* he does not want to tell me which galery but apparently a 6 th arrondissement 's one, not a weird one hidden in suburbs, and not the location written on the coa. Anyway he bought it. So if people are so dumbs to buy this fake Banksy, leave them..
( I think )

Completely disagree.
As pointed out above, there is a Warhol in the same auction, I honestly haven't got a clue if it is fake or not. But if I liked it and bought it and then found out it was a fake then I am dumb? Now I wouldn't buy it, or anything from this auction after that Banksy, but to simply think people are dumb for getting ripped off for thousands is a little bit unfair imo.
Maybe I just have a conscience and some morals, but I just don't see how some people can sleep at night knowingly ripping off people, whether that is for £1 or £50k.

If a buyer complains they get refunded, auction house keeps seller fees - free money either way.

Fake Banksy , by trickledown on Sept 7, 2021 11:11:47 GMT 1, I think the majority of bids on this item are fraudulent chandelier bids. William George hasn’t abided by their legal obligations to carry out due diligence.
Auction houses that can’t authenticate art reliably should be avoided like the plague and every single item they are selling should be considered as a fake until proven otherwise. The COA isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on.
The auction house is openly participating in fraud.

Fake Banksy , by Poster Bob on Sept 7, 2021 11:28:35 GMT 1, "I can see that you are asking about the little boy sewing a flag lot. I just want to make you aware that we have raised some questions with our vendor about the authenticity of this lot and whilst they have provided us with further details we have been unable to verify this with Pest Control so we are winning this lot ourselves and it will not be sold to a member of the public."

Fake Banksy , by trickledown on Sept 7, 2021 11:41:03 GMT 1, Goodness knows why they're choosing not to pull the auction, rather than 'winning it themselves' When you go to this page:
auctions.wgandco.com/lots?term=Rolex&primaryCategoryCode=CWJ
and then click down to their social media icons, click on the instagram icon it redirects you to a Russian construction company.
www.instagram.com/wg_co/
My guess is that there is nobody called 'William George' associated with William George auctions and it's most likely a front for an Russian organised crime syndicate

Fake Banksy , by woodman on Sept 7, 2021 13:23:58 GMT 1, I finally had a reply from them after my last email this morning, which was to the person who replied to me originally (then blanked me for 5 days), I told him that I have named him personally to Action Fraud with the report, so to expect a phonecall from them.
Amazing how this person suddenly wanted to reply to me.
My guess is it won't be long until another fake is in one of their auctions...If there isn't any more in this auction.

I have bought so many fakes on ebay ( banksy signe roads for 200 £ each, a tenner for 540 £ etc etc ) , that I was also a dumb then ( don't take it personally for you ). It's not an insult, well, I was naïve, I thought that ebay ( with all these recommandations, laws, warnings, etc ) was serious, as some people, now, are thinking that auctions houses are serious. Even galeries can swindle us ! ( I won't tell some stories about posters ) ...
I, We, all don't now then, that there was the Banksy forum. A real great place to learn... but a bit confidential as well...
One day, hopefully for a Banksy canvas or I don't know what, I thought to Pest Control and wrote to them : they anwered me automitcally that it was a fake .. and you know what ? I 'm still thinking sometimes that maybe they were wrong.... Seriously, I am a dumb, no ?
Anyway, there is a big difference between 20 k and 200 £... I mean if the guy can pay 20 k and don't ask if it's a real one or not, well he is very rich and does not care about money, or he is a ... nothing ,;-)
