Manchester, by We Have Your Prints on Sept 6, 2021 15:36:59 GMT 1, Afternoon all
I am planning a trip next week from Somerset to Manchester for a couple of days to see the Grayson exhibition at the Manchester Gallery.
Are there any other 'must see' art events in the city; or recommendations of things to not miss?
Many thanks Jay

Manchester, by vei on Sept 6, 2021 16:14:01 GMT 1, There’s a large Phlegm mural(s) off Burton Rd in west Didsbury. Outside the centre of town but a plenty of nice places to eat and drink.

Didsbury is quite far from the Etihad, plus it’s been gentrified after the students made it the cool place to live so you should be ok mentioning United. It’s best to edge towards city if you are talking to anyone with a strong Manc accent.

How likely are you to run into a city fan anyway? They can’t even fill their stadium…

Manchester, by We Have Your Prints on Sept 6, 2021 20:13:06 GMT 1, Afternoon all I am planning a trip next week from Somerset to Manchester for a couple of days to see the Grayson exhibition at the Manchester Gallery. Are there any other 'must see' art events in the city; or recommendations of things to not miss? Many thanks Jay I would pay a trip to the Whitworth. Its near the uni on Oxford road. It’s a great space with decent temporary exhibits, the permanent collection is ok but the space itself and the surrounds are worth the trip as is the cafe. One of the best buildings in Manchester and a world class gallery space. Plus the shop has some nice stuff Around the northern quarter you will find a tonne of street art and a dozen invaders if you go looking , possibly more There is also currently an outside exhibit at the central library of figures and sculptures celebrating the NHS workers, it’s not high Brow but it’s free and it is art. Again as is the case with Manchester often the surrounding architecture is better than the art The Manchester art gallery is near Chinatown and has a Banksy in the collection and some gormleys too as well as the Grayson stuff If you like historical works and architecture go to the john Rylands library on deansgate It’s a phenomenal building and again the bookshop is really decent for art related stuff Thanks for filling my itinerary for the two days.😁😀
We are staying near the central library so will be sure to stop there
The Whitworth sounds like a decent place to visit and gives an excuse to use the trams to get out of the city centre. Cheers Jay

Manchester, by Spenie on Sept 6, 2021 22:46:19 GMT 1, Not sure, I've never come across them though. I’ve never seen any choe that I recognised and I’m a big fan although not very observant I saw the original bomb middle England that I believe Banksy did 15/20 years ago off deansgate it was partially blacked over back then but it’s long gone and I believe I spotted the laugh now above a building in the NQ again years ago There’s an awesome invader off Oxford road you can see from the courtyard at the refuge bar it’s the biggest one I’ve seen anywhere NQ is full of amazing streetwork though just head to Stevenson square and then get lost in any direction on foot. Lots of familiar sites as the filming for peaky blinders and a lot of marvel stuff has been done there due to the buildings l. Walk to pollen for baked stuff and rudys for pizza and thank me later Tib street has some great shops, an invader , the best donuts for miles at siopshop and loads to look at. That should keep you busy Pollen is an absolute must as it is world class www.space-invaders.com/world/manchester/
Are you referring to Man 43, used to work in the office next door , passed that every day
Agree with Rudy's great Pizza's !!

It's free but it says you need to book tickets? link (don't look if you don't want to see them before you visit - they look good though). I haven't been to Manchester for years but never got much further than the Northern Qtr/Tibb St? I used to go to see the Unabombers at Electric Chair link

Manchester, by We Have Your Prints on Sept 17, 2021 11:12:34 GMT 1, Just got back from 2 days in Manchester - What a great City; vibrant and friendly. The Grayson exhibition at the Manchester Gallery was well worth a look. Also popped into the Lowry, had a long mooch around the Northern Quarter, spotted an Invader and found a Whisky bar - result.
Rudy's Pizza - wow, they had a crabmeat special - simply divine
Plenty more to see - will definitely be going back.
Thanks to all who gave some recommendations. Jay
