NFT Art , by darrenrapley on Mar 14, 2021 20:21:12 GMT 1, I don't have much, but honestly as a small crypto holder, I'm really upset by all NFTs stuff - clearly. I think this cheapens blockchain and bring much more confusion and speculation to crypto in general. Rather than using these smart engineers, resources, money to integrate cryptocurrency into everyday use and life, I still can't buy a sandwich at 99.99% restaurants with cryptocurrency and it's already been more than a decade since this has gone "mainstream", they decide to make a fake product, NFT, to lauder cryptocurrency through. They had all this time to make blockchain technology, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies useful for everyday life. They didn't. I'm starting to think they don't want to integrate crypto with everyday life because it will bring more government, and governments around the world, attention to all this. I think Tesla and it's connection to Coinbase/Crypto through Tim Draper makes that a unique situation but I don't think other major companies like Apple are going to buy into this. IF, they do then that will save crypto but if they don't, very soon, it's going to crash prices. Crypto needs this type of hype, speculation, and government stimulus money to keep it going. All of that it going to end soon unless another major player like Apple get's involved. Tim Cook, is very conservative in investing and smart, doesn't have to listen to Tim Draper or Elon which is why I don't think he will get involved. To me, stupid things like NFT, this will only bring later a harder federal regulatory inquiry into all this. I'm really starting to think this all for a few company's and their major IPOs coming like Coinbase before governments get involved in this, which will crash crypto prices. So just a few more years before this all come coming down hard. Might not go to zero but crypto prices will hurt for awhile. The big whales have convinced a lot of rich people to get involved. Don't be surprised, very soon, they pull the rug from all this and get out with billions before prices crash. Stimulus checks are ending for good soon, maybe another very small one but I think this it, and life will get back to normal soon. This easy money craze will be over soon. NFT and Bitcoin is part of this all this craze. NFTs - The more you ready about NFTs, there is absolutely nothing good about them. From environmental issues to many financial issues as well. To me, this cheapens artists and gallery that gets involved with this. It's so based on quick greed rather than anything else. Interesting and well put. Not sure I agree with everything you said but food for thought.

NFT Art , by Cool User Name on Mar 14, 2021 22:10:17 GMT 1, I'm still not convinced about the longevity of most of NFT art but I now have my first NFT.
I was one of the lucky few to get a free mooncat on Friday after someone tweeted about this abandoned 2017 website mooncatrescue.com/
and here's the 'art': -
At the time I questioned myself for spending $40 on Eth transaction fees to 'rescue' one and i could have got more but didn't bother. Big mistake as they are now changing hands for over 1 eth ( approx $2k) and the price is rising fast.
It turns out the reason for this buying frenzy is that they are the 2nd NFT's created a month after cryptopunks so hold historical value.
Crazy times we're living in.

The main ones, really the ones that matter, are deepweb and you'll have to pay in ETH. Again, just buy ETH, forget the token.

It’s definitely art. How can you claim it’s not art. It’s possibly not great art, but Still art. You sound like artorious007. 95% of the conversations on this forum are people hyping art purely for its value and their own gain. I do wonder when I see comments like this is it the same thing said at the start of every change in medium/ movement. Your literally butting into a thread to tell other people to fuck off because of a picture of a cat lol. That reaction alone proves it is some form of art lol

NFT Art , by eliott on Mar 14, 2021 23:06:49 GMT 1, Interesting market stats of Cesar Piette NFT (interesting because the Asian Market backs him up) a. Redhead woman on seascape: - Initial price $250 via draw. - Supposed to be edition 100, 8167 entries. Only 86 placed in the market (where are the remaining 14?). - rate of success in scoring: 1.05% - current number of secondary sales: 15 (17.4% of initial sales). - Average resale price: $1,496 (+500%) b. Vanitas with skull etc.: - Initial price $499 via draw. - Supposed to be edition 50, 6428 entries. Only 39 placed in the market (where are the remaining 11?). - rate of success in scoring: 0.6% - current number of secondary sales: 17 (43.58% of initial sales). - Average resale price: $1,837 (+268%) c. Snow on mountain: - Initial price $499 via draw. - Supposed to be edition 50, 5512 entries. Only 40 placed in the market (where are the remaining 10?). - rate of success in scoring: 0.72% - current number of secondary sales: 9 (22.5% of initial sales). - Average resale price: $1,860 (+273%) d. Yellow and green bird: - Initial price $799 via draw. - Supposed to be edition 25, 5015 entries. Only 17 placed in the market (where are the remaining 8?). - rate of success in scoring: 0.33% - current number of secondary sales: 2 (11.76% of initial sales). - Average resale price: $4,400 (+451%) So, what do we know from this? I guess Redhead woman is the one that has been performed better and more resellable. Is the immediate investment worth it? probably in this case. Let's watch the next 24hrs/7 days... EDIT: There are currently 20 "yellow and green birds" on the marketplace. This makes me think: a) where are the remaining 5? b) 9 people have the image "on sale" (45%). the remaining 55% hold it c)3 editions are owned (for free) by ALmine Rech that is trying to resell them for $5k. EDIT2: I love the transparency of NFTs. Almine Rech owns 7 images (for free) and has placed 3 on the market for $5k each. There's one edition missing (#1) - who got it? the artist? Nifty? Whenever you'll see #1/25 you'll know. Quite interesting numbers, thanks. The "remaining ones" were reserved for Cesar's F&F and some Almine Rech VIPs.

NFT Art , by plannedalism on Mar 15, 2021 6:05:41 GMT 1, Shot video while I put over 50 of these up around NYC. I minted the creation of one, this grid and a painting as an NFT as a semi ironic physical response to all the NFT craziness.
I have been creating digital art since 1985 (on a Quantel Paintbox) and see NFT as just another tool in our paintbox. I like the idea the "POST" can mean bill posters and social media/NFT's so played on that idea.
Just enjoyed reading not posting since joining a year ago sorry but my instagram is plannedalism

NFT Art , by kuni on Mar 15, 2021 11:39:13 GMT 1, The encroachment of Almine Rech into the NFT space makes one retch. Yes but they kind of screwed up. My understanding from listening to one of the guys from niftygateway talk about it is that instead of taking a cut of the sales they took a handful of each of the pieces with the intention of flipping them for $5k a piece immediately. They were handed all the lowest mints of each piece. The NG community was not cool with Almine trying to finesse tens of thousands of dollars flipping the art immediately and NG removed the sales and said that they won't have Almine back on the platform with Cesar or any artist. They would have been smarter to just take a cut.
Granted there are other platforms but none that offer the immediate frenzy and hype of NG.

NFT Art , by kuni on Mar 15, 2021 12:44:03 GMT 1, 100% agree, fuck the middlemen the most positive aspect for me of this development is that you can remove them from the equation What are you talking about? NFTs are all about middlemen! Theyre the ones pumping this thing. Zooming out I'm going to have to agree with this. It's a new breed of middleman but you've still got to pay the piper if you want to sell your art and make a name for yourself. Instead of the gallery you've now got to give niftygateway or superrare their cut of the action. Plus all the various feeds to tech companies that take a cut of the production. You've now got some shadowy process behind the scenes on niftygateway curating the artists that make the cut. There is a huge advantage to artists in that they now see a cut of the secondary sales, so I'll give this market a gold star for that.
100% agree, fuck the middlemen the most positive aspect for me of this development is that you can remove them from the equation What are you talking about? NFTs are all about middlemen! NFT Art , by stradled on Mar 15, 2021 13:35:54 GMT 1, The encroachment of Almine Rech into the NFT space makes one retch. Wow, never realised that happened. I saw that the numbers available were lower, but did not know they kept them and tried selling imeediately. Yikes.

NFT Art , by jimmyjam on Mar 15, 2021 15:33:59 GMT 1, I went to open sea to see what this all about. They have millions of NFTs that can’t sell for 1 cent. People can make NFTs on the site in two seconds and post anything as a NFT.
First off this going to KILL the environment as they will make you as many NFTs for free but to post them you need to pay them around 100 dollars- per NFT.
Ok this a massive massive scam. They are making millions on millions off of NFTs not going anywhere and just being the middleman.
The government will get involved with this soon. Between the environmental impact and the obvious money laundering this cannot last too much longer. Unless old man Biden is still learning how to use his iPad and has no clue what is going on with all this.

Unless old man Biden is still learning how to use his iPad and has no clue what is going on with all this. What does the US government have to do with this? The quicker thing that will happen is that all the owners of the intellectual property that appears in NFTs will start to sue the platforms that are selling them. Then you'll see the platforms close up shop and disappear with everyone's money (and if it's a closed block chain, all the NFTs as well).
If they see criminal use these with these platforms to launder money the government will get involved. This could be a pyramid scheme as well. There are so many red flags for a government agency to spend millions and years on with this. Government agencies love cases like this.

You should research first, you can make an nft yes but to post or mint you have to pay ethereum gas fees, they are high and one of the downsides of ethereum.. hence 2.0 and all the other blockchains popping up which offer a similar service but lower fees

NFT Art , by jimmyjam on Mar 15, 2021 16:05:00 GMT 1, This was just posted 2 days about by Artnet about regulations happening to Fine Art. Governments will spend years and millions to build up a case like this. I will bet anyone here - there is already an agency looking into all these NFT platforms and trying to figure out some case against it. This is their job and what they do.
www.artsy.net/article/artsy-editorial-new-anti-money-laundering-laws-will-affect-art-collectors
"For instance, in July 2020, the United States Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations published a report arguing that the art market’s lack of transparency allowed Russian oligarchs linked to President Vladimir Putin to purchase $18 million of art through a shell company, avoiding U.S. sanctions on financially corrupt elements in Russia."
"In September 2020, the global financial community was rocked by the FinCEN files leak, which detailed more than 2,500 documents sent to FinCEN (Financial Crimes Enforcement Network) reporting about $2 trillion worth of suspicious transactions moving through major global banks. These leaks later connected buyers of antiques at major auction houses with Pantheon Worldwide Limited, a shell company registered in Hong Kong and London that had unclear dealings with alleged antiques and art traffickers. Due to the globalized nature of the financial system, Pantheon’s operations in America involved European and British actors like Standard Chartered, a bank that ultimately issued a suspicious activity report to FinCEN."
Why don't you think the government is already looking into NFTs?

Interesting...
When I saw that they kept all the lowest numbers for themselves, I thought they were gonna gift them or sell them at face value to their VIP’s.
But after the general sale was over they started taking offers for one number at the time of each piece.

It’s like a gallery or a publishing house keeping the lower numbers of an art print for themselves to flip them for a higher price..

NFT Art , by kuni on Mar 15, 2021 17:20:53 GMT 1, You know you're out of your element when you think the number in an edition matters at all. In NFTs is more appealing so yes, it matters. Yeah not sure why it matters but it makes a huge difference in value if you have a single digit mint with the first 3 commanding up to a 5-10x multiple. It makes no sense to me coming from the physical world and I personally think it's moronic. Makes Almine snagging the low mints with the intention of flipping them that much more shady.
As for where NG made this statement it was one of their employees, Tommy, who wrote about it on the NG discord channel. If you were to look back to yesterday maybe late afternoon you'd be able to locate the full convo. Here's what I was able to easily locate:

NFT Art , by Happy Shopper on Mar 15, 2021 17:43:36 GMT 1, Very likely Almine (and I would say also other galleries) has done something that they were already doing in the physical world... Yep, I'm sure it's totally common for galleries to hold a few of each edition, and sell them at higher prices later.
Probably not so common to try to do that the same week though (and I wonder if the artist knew they were doing that? A bit dodgy either way!)

They didn't even wait until they'd all been minted and ended up actually clearing at least one before removing the listings.
I'm SURE Cesar has to at least know that they were getting the editions right off the top. Whether he knew they were going to slip them immediately is debatable.
