NFT Art , by Daylight Robber on Jan 4, 2022 15:39:43 GMT 1, To me, a painter releasing an NFT reeks of desperation and is no longer an artist in my eyes. They're just fishing for suckers to pay the bills rather than expressing themselves through paint.
I'm currently in agreement and keeping my fingers very much crossed that the artists I collect don't move into NFTs. Not sure how I'll feel about it if they do!

It gets mentioned with a beggars link about ten times a day here I think this project will go less the way of the Doodles (which locked its Discord at about 10k to try to have more control of who buys in) and more the way of Mekaverse and other overhyped projects. You're gonna get a lot of flippers that will mess with the growth in the beginning. It'll swing really high than bomb down as everyone tries to sell their little investment and it course corrects. Still a great investment if you can get it at mint.

NFT Art , by CREAM on Jan 4, 2022 16:57:38 GMT 1, If the NFT is shit bad for image but if it's thoroughly thought out with some utility I don't see how it's bad. Why would an artist not want to usher in a huge new audience of people? If only to get more people to see their physical art I don't get how that would be a bad thing. Wasted opportunity to sit out of the NFT scene imo.

NFT Art , by dunkers on Jan 4, 2022 17:13:35 GMT 1, This all depends on how the artist approaches it.
If they use the medium properly to build a project with utility or roadmap and deliver then great for the image.
If they just release an image as an NFT for the hype, charge a fortune and use it as a quick cash grab (as may have) then bad for the image.
From experience my opinion of Hirst has gone up whilst my opinion of JR has gone down.

Now that there's new airdrops it sounds like its going they way of any old NFT project trying to pump up its price through value-adds.

NFT Art , by timtim on Jan 4, 2022 17:40:54 GMT 1, I feel/fear that the mere fact that we are discussing this today (with a strong engagement I can see) shows that this probably is a real thing. Maybe it's still a bit early but with the metaverse developments, I would not be surprised if at some point your virtual living room becomes more important than you physical one. If that's the case, you'll be proud to have a digital Hirst in your virtual living room as you are proud today to have a Banksy in your physical living room. That might take a generation or 2 though.

There's not much appeal in a digital image in itself, unless the artist creates in that medium, and makes a point of it.
Hockney iPad paintings would actually work, imo, but not a scan of a painting, or pointless recreation in 3D of a painting.

There is so much that can be done for utility. However this works better with other types of projects rather than artist pieces. With artists though there are still plenty of options for utility such as free access to exhibits, access to private viewings, meet and greet with the artist, access to pre-sales on future releases. Essentially using the NFT like a membership card as well as an art piece

All in all, this is nothing new. It's really just marketing and gimmickry masked as 'the fuuuttttuuuurrrre!'

But is this a good thing? Is commoditization of our experience online really a good thing? It's amazing how all the talk of the internet being a democratising force where we could all co-exist without class divides and prejudices has been replaced with 'fuck you, my avatar is a 400k ape'. We're truly a goofy species.

Seems very few have real utility… if any. At some point all those benefits can be pulled, and leave you with just the NFT.

I know what are the parameters to look at to assess the viability of a project but just don't have the time to assess 5 new projects everyday. Is there a reliable source out there simplifying a bit the super time-consuming effort needed? Muchas mercias ;-)

1-5 years at most. Samsung is adding NFT support to its 2022 range of TV screens. I’m planning on showing my Hirsts on there later this year, plus a few Paks.

Everyone is looking to bring the art space into the digital through NFTs. I'd be just as interested in seeing the utility of NFTs brought into the real world art scene, such as use of POAPs for attending gallery openings, or nft tokens on purchase from a gallery of artist. A way to build up a presence in the art world which is increasingly becoming a silo'd, lonely experience through online gallery purchases, etc. But all in aid of physical art sales.

Anyone else find it ironic that while many people are being persuaded to invest real money in digital NFTs, many of those who made money from crypto and other digital technology are now investing it in real art?

The TLDR of this: despite all the hype around NFTs, physical art is still slamming.

I don’t find it ironic because NFTs are even more stupider than crypto

From what I've read, the major holders of ETH are the ones buying NFTs at high prices to make it appear as if there's real demand for NFTs. That in turn creates demand for NFTs and sheeple rushing in to buy or create NFTs. That increases the demand and price for ETH and makes the ETH whales even richer. Then these whales buy actual art with it rather than the fake stuff.

NFT collecting is really more scratching the get-rich-quick, day trader itch. With a little bit of flex and desire to be a part of a community thrown in. Most of this is really a transition of day trading or flipping crytpo currencies than going from the physical art market to NFTs.
This from The Guardian: "The global art market performed at record levels in 2021, with billions of dollars being paid for works by impressionist, postwar and contemporary artists, and much of it bought by people whose wealth comes from cryptocurrencies or other technologies."
www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2022/jan/02/crypto-tycoons-global-art-market-record-levels-2021Anyone else find it ironic that while many people are being persuaded to invest real money in digital NFTs, many of those who made money from crypto and other digital technology are now investing it in real art?
From what I've read, the major holders of ETH are the ones buying NFTs at high prices to make it appear as if there's real demand for NFTs. That in turn creates demand for NFTs and sheeple rushing in to buy or create NFTs. That increases the demand and price for ETH and makes the ETH whales even richer. Then these whales buy actual art with it rather than the fake stuff. Yeh, I'm not sure why they keep comparing NFT collecting to physical art collecting. NFT collecting is really more scratching the get-rich-quick, day trader itch. With a little bit of flex and desire to be a part of a community thrown in. Most of this is really a transition of day trading or flipping crytpo currencies than going from the physical art market to NFTs.

NFT Art , by dunkers on Jan 6, 2022 20:36:53 GMT 1, Why would this be ironic? NFTs and art are not the same. Makes sense for people who make money in crypto to invest it in various markets including art.

NFT Art , by matgab on Jan 6, 2022 21:38:37 GMT 1, Todd Kramer, the gallery owner of New York’s Ross + Kramer Gallery, shared on Twitter that he had been hacked and his NFT collection had been stolen.
Kramer lost his Ethereum wallet of 15 NFTs valued at a total of $2.2 million, including four apes from the 'Bored Ape Yacht Club' collection. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Acme Thunderer, we need to add it to the cons.
