Digital SLR camera, by Zippy on Sept 21, 2021 0:44:20 GMT 1, Looking for recommendations to buy a digital SLR camera.
Had a lovely canon film SLR but one of my sons has now taken it and loves shooting on film.
Happy to buy a digital canon as used to the functions etc but any recommendations would be great.

Digital SLR camera, by ajr on Sept 21, 2021 8:09:31 GMT 1, Had a Sony compact camera for a few years and that was great as much smaller than SLR but took great images which was good enough for me as I am no expert, just casual point and shoot snaps while out and about and holidays. But the best camera is the one which is with you all the time, so good ultra compact or decent camera phone, although they are obviously on another level in terms of quality.

Digital SLR camera, by gmidd on Sept 21, 2021 13:42:40 GMT 1, I would also recommend Sony. I have a Sony a6300 mirrorless and love it. I also have a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III point and shoot that takes amazing pictures and is pocketable. The only downside of the DSC-RX100 III is no interchangeable lenses. It does have a pretty good zoom range though.

Digital SLR camera, by churchwood on Sept 21, 2021 13:48:55 GMT 1, I bought a Canon fully digital SLR a few years ago - it was used but had had minimal usage and was in fantastic condition. Without checking, pretty sure it's an EOS 450d.
I don't use it so much anymore, the curse of the ease and portability of smartphones but my son was using it the other day for a project and I forgot how amazing the pictures it takes are.
Before the SLR I had a handful of compact Digital cameras, a canon Ixus, an Olympus mju400 (I think) and a Panasonic. None of them lasted that long and all succumbed to hardware failures of some description but they were all relatively cheap, probably tops of ยฃ150 each.
The Canon is light years ahead in terms of functions and quality - i may have to start using it again

Digital SLR camera, by ant0187 on Sept 21, 2021 17:04:38 GMT 1, I just went for a fujifilm xs10, it's a great camera, small body, but very good specs for the size. It's very good at photo and video, has in built image stabilisation, good in low light. Highly recommended.

Digital SLR camera, by dotdot on Sept 21, 2021 18:40:29 GMT 1, Not a good subject for me Zippy
If you want a dslr (capable) which doesnโt have the faff of lenses - you might want to think about a sony rx1 or equiv.
I own far too many cameras all capable of performing under different conditions - for a simple majestic solution the rx1 , even though it now quite old , can still blow most cameras and all phones away.
Cost ~500 2nd hand if youโre luckyโฆ. Take your time and youโll find something decent on the bay.
If you donโt want the size of the rx1 - opt for the sony rx100 - i have a mkIV and itโs a good solution for most workโฆ and if you need a zoom check out a sony HX90 - can see things literally miles away..
..good luck and yeah a decent camera equals decent price - and accurate colour rendition - most phones - have no idea about rendition. (Software based solution rather than a decent bit of glass w/ sensor)

Digital SLR camera, by Zippy on Oct 3, 2021 23:46:15 GMT 1, Thank you all for taking the time to reply and especially those that have pmโd me. I am down to 2 Canons. I like canon as my previous film SLR (my son has taken) means i know my way around them. Looking at a DSLR 250D v a mirrorless M50 ii If you have either of these, please let me know your thoughts.
