Visit PARIS ๐ซ๐ท France Street Art, Galleries, Events, by saltandiron on Oct 30, 2007 23:09:19 GMT 1, I'm off to Paris on Thursday and wondered if anyone knew if there was a particular area of the city known for it's street art. Or if anyone had any good small galleries to recommend.
Any suggestions welcome!

Visit PARIS ๐ซ๐ท France Street Art, Galleries, Events, by Jef Aerosol on Oct 30, 2007 23:45:26 GMT 1, I've just sent an email to an american Flickr contact who's coming to Paris next week ! She asked me where my street stencils could be seen... I guess I can paste and copy it for you :
Dear X, I suggest you start with the famous district of "Mouffetard" (5e arrondissement) where you'll find loads of street art pieces. Best thing to do would certainly be to have a map of Paris with you, so that you can locate the streets more easily. If you go down rue Mouffetard, you'll find Rue Jean Calvin on your right (about middle of Rue Mouffetard), there are several of my stencils there (some have been there for quite a long time), opposite that street, on the left, take the pedestrian only street called rue du Pรจre Theillard de Chardin, and you'll see a mural along the school wall. Get back to rue Mouffetard and keep walking down. Soon, you'll see Rue de l'Arbalรจte (it crosses rue Mouffetard). You can first go right and you'll see several pieces. One is on cafรฉ Fernando (on your right), another one is just opposite Cafรฉ Fernando. Then, further on, you'll see two pieces in the corner on the left (facing rue Lhomond). Keep going and on the right, in another corner, you'll find my Lennon and sitting kid. A bit further down the road, there's a very nice piece by my friends Mesnager and Nemo (mesnager paints a white body while Nemo stencils a black silhouette). Turn round and get back to rue Mouffetard, cross it and go to the other part of rue de l'Arbalรจte : there, on the left, have a look at 4 of my characters, and some pigeons too... In the same district, you can also find pieces of mine rue d'Ulm, Rue des Feuillantines, rue Pierre Nicole (those are off rue St Jacques)... There are some others, but I'm not sure whether they've been cleaned or not... Then, you may want to go to la Butte aux Cailles and the 13 arrondissement, where I have several pieces and where you will also see some pieces by my good friend Miss tic. At la Butte aux Cailles, go to Rue des Cinq Diamants. There, you'll see my stencils on the galerie "les yeux posรฉs" and also further up the street, near rue Simonet. There's also a piece in rue Gรฉrard, parallel to rue des Cinq Diamants. Two pieces can be seen Rue de la Butte aux Cailles, down the street, on the little cultural center. Don't miss the wall of Rue du Moulin des Prรจs, just near Place Paul Verlaine. Then, go to PASSAGE du Moulin des Prรจs, on the left when walking up Rue Bobillot. There are some others in this district and also in the Gobelins neighborhood, and also Rue Croulebarbe... For more precise addreses and pics, go there : jefaerosol.free.fr/JefAerosol_Bievre2006.htm A place you should see and which isn't far from where you'll be staying : the big mural on the front of music venue L'Europรฉen, Rue Biot, near Place de Clichy (17e arrondissement) : it's worth seeing. A minute away from there, go to Rue de la Condamine and you'll see some stencil on the old hotel almost in front of Galerie Ligne 13 (13 rue de la condamine)... I have also done stuff in the 4e and 3e arrondissements... And i think you should also go to rue Oberkampf, late in the evening after shops are closed or on sunday, to see my cow and farmer on the butcher's shutter at number 28 (almost at the corner of Rue de la Folie Mericourt) This is not far from Place de la Rรฉpublique (11e arrondissement). Go up rue Oberkampf and you'll see some more nice stuff on shop shutters. Stop at the corner of rue Oberkampf and rue St Maur andhave a look at the huge piece on Place Verte (by my friend Epsylon Point)... If you go up rue Oberkampf, you'll arrive in rue de Menilmontand. Menilmontand is one of the old districts of Paris, still very lively and popular. The old Paris ! I haven't any pieces over there, but you may stumble across some nice pieces by Nemo or Mesnager... I guess that when you'vewalked all those streets up and down, you legs will ache !!! lol ! I really wish you the best of trips and a happy stay in Paris. Be sure to take your camera and some extra batteries and memory cards with ya ! Go visit Galerie Anne Vignial, the one and only galerie devotedto street art in Paris ! (53 rue Charlot, Paris 3e). It's a small but very nice place. Anne will be very happy to chat with you (she can speak good english)... Tell her we know each other thru Flickr. she has a flickr page too : www.flickr.com/photos/annevignial and there's a flickr group : www.flickr.com/groups/galerieannevignial Enjoy ! cheers jef

Any suggestions for must-see street art? (Is there anything around by that man who puts down-and-outs in phoneboxes and the like?)
Any suggestions for must-see shows?
And of course - the most romantic place to go?
(yes I know I could buy a guidebook but I'm far too tight for that nonsense)
