Yes those sales were before the online sale but the lottery system made it more difficult to get, so I believe a lot of people missed out and are willing to pay if not ebay prices very close to those. Also it's not as if 1000 prints were just released, we're still talking about low numbers

Agree with you mate. The demand has hugely increased (who could ever expect 40k subscriptions to the lottery? To the lucky winners perhaps it appears differently, but this is a huge figure in a two days time frame!!! ) this is why the proximity to the release date is irrelevant now. A few years ago that was relevant indeed. I purchased my green Sunset and the LA kit just a couple of days after release and the price paid was one third or fourth of the market price for similar items! So still pretty affordable.
But today I believe its way harder, few genuine collectors are willing to pay "Ebay prices" as someone says above...
Aladdin sane is embossed by the way, a little difference, but perhaps this feature is a plus for an Invader fan and collector....for me it is for sure... Still wonder why he decided not to emboss the Alert 2020.... 🤔🤔😃😃

Only the black version remains on the site, maybe some very few emails are still going out.

If Maddox has a market price prediction of 12k then that tells me they plan to pay much much less 😁 They are a gallery, and of course, galleries probably control the market in some way for a few selected makers of limited edition prints, such as Invader, so I guess you can call them experts. I observe that several galleries have had the Alert print in stock for a while without selling and that the supply has now increased through the «lottery». Wild wild guess: the fact that the «special» edition sold out first indicates that a good portion of buyers bought to sell; it is _same_ edition size as the four black ones so to me, what makes the cyan more special - apart from the name - is that it would fit the interior in fewer (not few) homes 🤣 And 40k - come on. Hey look, register here/can I register you and you/we could make lots and lots of quick money. X48 hours. Good way to market Invader but also a good way of watering out early registrations from fans. My price prediction is that it won’t be available at a price I am willing to pay 🤣

Great write up…but not sure I agree (personally) on all.  I was sooooo lucky to have won and selected the “special” cyan/magenta because it stands out.  I would NEVER sell it and can’t wait to have it framed (still looking for framing advice BTW).  I have prints of all colors on my walls…the fact that the print might “clash” with my walls colors never even enters into any purchase I make.  I’m now curious how many collectors actually think of this when purchasing art though.

and yes, I am sure there were probably 500-2000 persons out there that had multiple registrations.  But I assume that’s why Invader said it’d take a few days to organize the lottery.  I wouldn’t think (again, personally) that Invader would knowingly select persons that were flippers or associated with galleries.  His demand is easily seen by auction prices and demand overall.  I would assume he likes that people put his prints and pieces on display in homes.  If he didn’t (again, personal feelings), why wouldn’t he put out a print twice a year or even yearly?   

I would never be able to afford a grey-market print of his.  Heck, I can barely afford the Spaceshop price (my CC company is going to love the interest).  I’m in my mid-40’s and can remember going over to my friend’s house (when my friend who was lucky enough to have an Atari) and playing Space Invaders and Pac-Man for the high-score.  I dig Invader’s rubic cube prints, but would die for an Aladdin Sane or RVE because it brings back such fond childhood memories…the joy of beating your friends’ high score or the determination when your high was beat.

and I remember the awesome icons on my friend’s early macintoshes (my parents were anti-tv/video games…I had 4 tv channels growing up that came through on antennae until middle school).  I guess I’m bougie now that I can collect art.   So all you flippers out there, you should be ashamed for your want of the all-mighty dollar instead of being able to walk past one of these prints on your wall and not being able to smile and think of your childhood friends and summers off and high-scores on freaking Atari’s.

that’s the end of my rant…I’m getting crotchedy in my old age…but so stoked to soon have a print on my wall that harkens these memories…despite it not matching my home’s color scheme.

Yes…if I lost my job and my home was on the line or I had a serious illness, I’d sell my entire art collection without a thought.  But to buy a print just to sell it for a quick buck off the artists’ backs…heck no.
