Question on COAs, by jackburton on Oct 13, 2021 0:06:47 GMT 1, Was spending time organizing provenance proof for my collection, and realized not all of the galleries I’ve purchased from have provided COAs. Is this common? Obviously I keep all correspondence and receipts related to any piece I purchase, but wanted others opinions on what is adequate for showing provenance in the event a gallery does not provide a COA. Thoughts?

Question on COAs, by eD on Oct 14, 2021 11:39:53 GMT 1, Sales receipt, any correspondence, artists links to the gallery - all the stuff you've collected will help in the absence of a COA to establish credibility in the piece. As an example just look at some of the Banksy bits flying around where COA's are not given - provenance is established using what was recorded at the time of the purchase. Where you dont have a COA and you feel its important, you could always try contacting the gallery or the artist directly to see if they are now in a position to provide one.
