Javier Calleja 🇪🇸 Málaga, Spain • Drawings • Sculture, by ericc on Mar 15, 2023 14:08:10 GMT 1, 1k$ for an unsigned open edition inkjet print, whoever buys this must have lost his mind! During the last few months you could buy a signed edition from some of the most important artists of our time for less than this: 100x150cm hirst print 1k$, edition of 100 Baselitz etching 850euro. Seriousy this pricing is absolutely insane and y all need to stop this shit. what was the 100x150cm hirst print 1k$ print? I wouldn't call it "absolutely insane". I mean, what's the current pricing of Calleja's prints? 5k? 10k? Inject print and stamped and maybe a bit overpriced. The Hirst UP print (currency close up inkjets) I’d definitely call this absolutely insane. It‘s a digitally printed poster of an etching, open edition, unsigned. Can‘t call yourself an artcollector if you buy stuff like this for 1000$.

Crazy to see so many unsold editions on AA, from some big names too. Hope the print prices start to come down to a more logical price point.

Javier Calleja 🇪🇸 Málaga, Spain • Drawings • Sculture, by Christian Avant Arte on Mar 15, 2023 16:02:16 GMT 1, Reading the comments and as always thanks for your valuable feedback. I wanted to share a bit more about why we do timed editions and this edition in particular.
Our time editions series is different to our other limited editions. It opens up the opportunity for more people to get a chance to own a work by some pf the artists we work with. You don’t need to have special allocation to get a work and it is designed to be more affordable than a limited edition print by an established artist.
This will be a high quality print not a poster at all. Each print is a hybrid print with silkscreen details, varnish and ink layers. You can get both prints for €1k or get one for €600 with free shipping, which makes it possible for more people to own this particular edition. To authenticate this print, Javier has designed a bespoke stamp specifically for this edition, that will be embossed on the front of the print. The stamp includes one of his trademark characters, along with his name and the date.
Hope that gives some more insight into what we’re doing and we appreciate your feedback. I know not everybody in here likes the model of 24 hour timed release but we know a lot of people who do and now finally have the opportunity to buy a high quality print from Javier.

The biggest complaint about the Ayako print was, that it's not signed. It was said back then that's because it's part of the artist's practice plus a traditional Japanese thing. Now we have this stamp created expecially for this release... That's a lot of effort not to have them signed. I know it's a lot of signatures but if James Jean can signed his timed editions and Elliot Erwitt could signed the Magnum Square Prints till he was 90, I bet Javier could do it with no problem

I just wish the timing was shorter(something like 6 hours).

I saw a video from you guys of a process but as far as I could tell it was a diffent print as it was peeled off (a smal face). A friend had showed me it. "Silkscreen details?" A lot of people on here have been collecting for a while and know the difference between a silkscreen, Giclee/Archival print/ Lithograph etc.
It may make people on here make a more informed decision. I have your founders print by Parla and it may have been an idea to have a signed sticker like that. Your packing and quality from that was good, but it helps to not blur the lines of what it is.

The hybrid print medium enables us to capture excellent image fidelity through our digital UV flatbed print technology, and combines it with various silkscreen layers of embellishments to bring the prints to life and to add depth and texture
Let me know if you have any more questions!

Limited Calleja edition we moan and groan because same vips get em therefore making them inaccessible. $1,081 for two framed prints is more than reasonable… you expected to get a signed, framed, hand embellished print sub $500 a piece? From a “hot” artist?? Keep dreaming
Stop counting people’s pockets. No sh*t they make more $ off timed release, last I checked they’re a business not a charity

Javier Calleja 🇪🇸 Málaga, Spain • Drawings • Sculture, by its all about me on Mar 15, 2023 20:19:02 GMT 1, I've never been a fan of cartoon characters with big eyes. Can't see the point, to be honest.
But I do wonder at all this negativity towards timed editions. Having repeatedly lost out on limited editions that sell out in ten seconds flat, I love timed editions. It means I can definitely get a print that I want. When it's on the Wall at home, I don't tend to worry if it's an edition of 50 or 5,000 anyway.

Javier Calleja 🇪🇸 Málaga, Spain • Drawings • Sculture, by Avant Arte on Mar 15, 2023 20:42:33 GMT 1, To answer Dibbs 45 and Acme Thunderer questions with a bit more technical terms.
The base layer of this print is done by UV flatbed printer that uses inkjet technology with UV inks. These inks cure fast and allow for amazing precision which works well when we want to mimic the thin detailed lines of Javier’s original etching. UV inks cure instantly under UV light where other inks would take longer to dry causing more dispersing of the ink in substrate (paper) and therefor would have less precision when we print ultra fine lines like these.
For the eye colour we want to capture the quality of the original watercolour hand-finish by going with a silkscreen oil based ink layer on top of the UV inkjet base layer. Oil based ink is part of the evaporation dry inks category. They tend to loose about 50-70% of their solids content to the atmosphere when drying. This means that they have that soft finish to them and allow for the eyes to not look too harsh on print.
Lastly we use our silkscreen to add a layer of UV ink with gloss finish on the eye highlights and t-shirt. The one on the eyes is see through so it doesn’t ruin the soft effect described above while still adding a glimmer to the eye. The silkscreen layer added to the t-shirt is a UV gloss red ink and meant to add extra highlight to the message of the piece ‘Once in my life’.
Hope that explains in enough detail which print techniques we use and why. But if you have more questions feel free to ask!

Javier Calleja 🇪🇸 Málaga, Spain • Drawings • Sculture, by Avant Arte on Mar 15, 2023 22:14:37 GMT 1, qest Technically it's 5, the 4 we mentioned above and 1 additional layer that acts as an ink seal over the full work: - UV flatbed inkjet print - Silkscreen oil based matte ink seal - Silkscreen oil based gloss varnish ink on eyes - Silkscreen UV gloss varnish on eye highlights (nose too actually) - Silkscreen UV red ink on text of t-shirt and the mouth
With ‘digital print colour’ I think Acme Thunderer means UV inkjet has a digitally driven print head, meaning inkjet is a full automated delivery system. That said, silkscreen can also be done with semi automated methods and isn’t always hand-pulled. There is nothing wrong with things not being manual, in fact this can really help with consistency and for instance works well for very advanced silkscreen printing. But even to run a semi auto silkscreen printing workflow you already need to be an expert in manual processes first.
Before we start printing, no matter how we print, there will always be a large manual process where our expert printing team has to do things like determining the right print techniques, separating colours, calibrating the print systems, managing the press, constantly adding ink to ensure perfect run and comparing many proofs to end up with the perfect final print.
Jimini Cricket No interns or unpaid labour involved in print production btw. It's all hard-working employees who make these amazing prints!
