Javier Calleja 🇪🇸 Málaga, Spain • Drawings • Sculture, by Avant Arte on Mar 16, 2023 10:33:37 GMT 1, All those manual processes involved in this print? Great question! Actually yes the 6 I listed are all involved as well as of course manual finishing, trimming, embossing and archival packing of prints. In total takes a team 5 people to manage all theses manual processes

Javier Calleja 🇪🇸 Málaga, Spain • Drawings • Sculture, by Javier on Mar 16, 2023 11:18:12 GMT 1, Thanks for this detailed and professional explanation. What I thought it was a pass, after deeply knowing the quality and the work involved in the manufacturing of the prints, now makes me rethink about it.
it’s not all about the signatures (which would be great but also a x10 price -at least-)

Javier Calleja 🇪🇸 Málaga, Spain • Drawings • Sculture, by its all about me on Mar 16, 2023 11:58:17 GMT 1, I've never been a fan of cartoon characters with big eyes. Can't see the point, to be honest. But I do wonder at all this negativity towards timed editions. Having repeatedly lost out on limited editions that sell out in ten seconds flat, I love timed editions. It means I can definitely get a print that I want. When it's on the Wall at home, I don't tend to worry if it's an edition of 50 or 5,000 anyway. This is posturing intended to chill interest. When the purchase window closes, the print will turn out to be brilliant in the flesh and one of his best editions to date. Gosh! You are really hyping this one up to the eyeballs, aren't you.
How many are you buying ready to flip on e-bay?

But since you ask, I'm going to buy at least ten thousand of them. The wife might like it, but won't check until after purchase. Hope my dog doesn't get sick.

I have no opinion about this one - but I couldn't stand the Invader/Heni release, and that sentiment was expressed in my comments.

Javier Calleja 🇪🇸 Málaga, Spain • Drawings • Sculture, by Acme Thunderer on Mar 16, 2023 14:43:43 GMT 1, I’m surprised that ‘picking up a piece of paper’ is not included as one of the processes and what this person ate for lunch.
No one is questioning that it won’t be quality (as I own several AA artworks), but the descriptions of how this is printed is completely over the top and not needed. It is trying to sound far more elaborate than it really is.
I’ve visit printing presses (for 30 years) and write marketing copy for my job so I can spot the unnecessary BS a mile off.
Keep it simple…

Javier Calleja 🇪🇸 Málaga, Spain • Drawings • Sculture, by Deleted on Mar 16, 2023 15:15:54 GMT 1, Now a Ai Wei Wei time release just a few days after this? Over-saturating the print market right now is not a good idea for any Artist. This won’t end well for the print market if they keep doing this. Similar things happened in many other hobby markets and they all get negatively affected by it. We will see how all this plays out.

But since you ask, I'm going to buy at least ten thousand of them. The wife might like it, but won't check until after purchase. Hope my dog doesn't get sick. If someone criticises a release I think the most common reason is because it's a bit rubbish. But people love to project all sorts of wild theories on to it. To be honest, I hate Calleja's work. I wouldn't even pick one up if they were giving them away for free. I think it's dull, tedious, uninspiring and rather pointless all round. But there definitely seems to be a market for this sort of crap so perhaps I'm missing something. I guess it would be a strange world if we all liked the same thing.

I agree calleja is a bit tedious and very average but I still think it would look good in my kids room.

Javier Calleja 🇪🇸 Málaga, Spain • Drawings • Sculture, by witchdoctor on Mar 17, 2023 12:19:58 GMT 1, For the last two years we’ve been working with Javier on a very special project for which he has created a collection of original hand-finished ground etchings. From these works he’s selected a diptych ‘Once in my life’ to be turned into time-limited prints for our upcoming collaboration. The two prints can be ordered separately or together for 24 hours only on March 23rd. All those ordering will be entered into a randomised draw to win one of 100 t-shirts created especially for this release! For our community members I’ve been given 10 t-shirts to give away to Javier fans. And you do not have to buy the print to be able to win one of these! If you want to enter the draw for one of these 10 t-shirts you can leave a message in our Discord server’s #javier-calleja channel. It can be your favourite work of his, a work you already own or a line about why you love his work. Just make sure it features this emoji ✏️ to be counted as an entry for draw! You can see the full details for the prints here and join our Discord server here if you aren’t already a member. Im am sure the Just out of curiosity; when during these two years did You decide that the prints were not going to be signed? And for what reason is this done, is it to much work, is it to much hazle, do artist regularly not sign open limited timed editions and so on? Please anyone feel free to enlighten me

Javier Calleja 🇪🇸 Málaga, Spain • Drawings • Sculture, by Londown 01 on Mar 17, 2023 12:29:01 GMT 1, I also think it is strange: maybe it is a personal choice of the artist? Maybe to have some variety in the prints that are on the market ... but feels absurd that the 65 year old Ai Weiwei, whose standing in the art world is surely higher, will be signing thousands of prints for Avant Arte while Calleja is not.

However, when collaborating we can't disregard an artist's personal preference. There are artists who prefer to use different ways of authenticating their work.Toms Sachs wanted to use stamp, sticker and NFT. Ayako Rokkaku chose to stamp the edition like she does with her original works. And now Calleja has chosen to design a custom stamp for the edition. Hard to say why artists have the preferences they do. It's their work so how they see their practice best represented is something we always respect.
