Javier Calleja 🇪🇸 Málaga, Spain • Drawings • Sculture, by Wearology on Jun 29, 2019 10:55:10 GMT 1, The Javier Calleja Show in Greece was absolutely spectacular. It was truly amazing to speak with the artist directly and get a genuine understanding of what his thought process was for creating these distinct works and how they encompassed the unique island of Mykonos and the indoor / outdoor gallery space. The show consisted of 19 works that spanned from coloured pencil drawings on thick stock paper to large scale paintings on canvas. The artist created drawings on the walls throughout the gallery and verbiage that related to the art and the space itself. It was great to meet some amazing forum members that flew in from Paris, London and other parts of the globe. Congratulations to Javier, Alicia and the team at Dio Gallery for putting on such a great show.

Javier Calleja 🇪🇸 Málaga, Spain • Drawings • Sculture, by met on Jul 3, 2019 15:33:46 GMT 1, Is it me or is this a just hype and gift card art ? It's an interesting mini-phenomenon.
The various reactions to Javier Calleja's work illustrate clear differences between collectors on different levels.
EDIT: I somehow clicked 'Create Post' in error before finishing.
By "differences between collectors on different levels", I was first referring to differences in sensibility, including aesthetic sensibility. It's understandable why the art may appeal to some. Personally, I consider it well-executed but naff.
The Calleja example also highlights differences between collectors in the importance they attribute to originality and distinctiveness of style. [Or, alternatively, disparities in their respective levels of art-history knowledge.]
When I look at his work, I see an artist who's been paying far too much attention to Yoshitomo Nara. In my view, derivativeness will be the aspect most responsible for holding back Calleja's career and preventing his work from being taken seriously by recognised institutions, informed critics and influential collectors.

Totally believable, but by chance do you have auction # or screenshot? I know you're not lying, just trying to keep track of sales myself on these lol

The ones that did buy, bought because they got caught up in the frenzy and didn't want to miss out. These are minor images commanding major prices.

Nice that you weren't happy with your original insult, so you decided to go back and edit in a little comment about p***s size. Classy. Maybe time to call it a night - perhaps one too many spritzers. ... Love a spritzer!
Its personal. Maybe he wants to have it out on the forum... Probably best for all not to. Its up to him, his call. Lets just say, he's a Ben Askren to my Jorge Masvidal. I'll leave it at that.
Night all.

Really excited about this release, we are just in the start of working on it so it will take a lot of time before we can release this. The launch will definitely not be in 2019. But besides that I understand your comments about backdooring and pre orders. For every launch we do, we always have some editions available on the launch date and it is true that for most editions we launch we do pre orders.
In an ideal world we would love to stop doing pre orders and have all the editions available at the launch and give everyone the same changes to buy an edition.
The are a few things holding us back from that and that is one that we have some really loyal collectors that are buying a lot of works from us also the works where there is no hype around it and we wanna give those collectors the opportunity to buy something from us when they really want something.
Also we wanna sell to collectors that dont put it the next week on eBay, so we sometimes need to be picky and really watch out to who we sell it to. We dont have control on this with putting everything on public sale. I think the reason why we dont wanna see it on eBay the next week is clear, this even happened with the charity edition of Pejac (got bought in the public launch).
We would love to find a way to make this more fair to everybody, also to first time collectors of Avant Arte or in general, so we would love to get feedback from you guys on how we can do this better!
All the best,
Christian

People work hard on relationships and support artists and companies early on and through the journey and earn the right to get the releases that the flippers want purely for profit!
This forum is the ultimate hype then hate in the same week when they don’t snag.
Keep it real homee and ignore the haters.
