Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by snausages on Oct 27, 2008 3:38:26 GMT 1, KAWS did very well, but what happened to those Mcgee OGs? ! Has the world gone mad!!! The Mcgee Heads although really nice weren't all that large and did ok. The really big mcgee just isn't a highly desirable work by him and on plywood that was not perfect condition, the estimate was just too high for that one.
My very rough estimate for this auction puts things at about 50% not sold. Faile bombed again, Walker and Dface didn't sell along with many others. Estimates are just too high for these people. A lot of contemporary & photographs failed to sell as well. Most lots got at least 1 bid but no one is willing to pay these estimates anymore. 25% buyers premiums can't be helping either. Used to be 17.5% just a few short years ago.

Agree. There are more than plenty of avarage pieces around for sale these days.

They were all bought by the same person who knew exactly which he wanted, bid on them, and left - the rest went unsold.
I got the feeling that most of the audience weren't there for that part of the auction. If you are a seller you ought to avoid mixed auctions but as a buyer they look like a good source.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by snausages on Nov 15, 2008 17:15:23 GMT 1, That Basquiat is much nicer than all of those posthumous prints they put out a few years ago. A lot of great stuff in the auction, I'd most recommend bidding on this, I wish I could but can't right now. tinyurl.com/5tbvhe But this reserve is about the same price or less than some urban art prints which is a bit ridiculous in my opinion.
The nice thing about these is they're so insanely huge, the only problem with these are they're so insanely huge they're a bitch to ship and frame. I'd check with PD to see if it comes with the frame (probably a $500-1000 value) But they look fricking great in the dining room or kitchen.

I know he's pretty famous but have not seen any photos for sale before. Is this unusual or have I just not been looking hard enough, or is he not that good?
