started off at £30k may well have not sold then at £33k. The auctioneer had a habit of bringing down the gavel to end a lot, then accepting bids he had missed and not being at all clear at what had been passed ( unsold ) or sold. That's where the £33k came from. Not one I would have really wanted poor Rat has had half his tail chopped off.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by senna on Sept 7, 2008 10:15:01 GMT 1, IMHO generally disappointing for all involved:
too low to sell...too high to buy
the auctioneer was unprofessional. accepting bids after the hammer & moving on too quickly with stuff he didn't have "a lot of interest" in.
wouldn't like to be Philips; trying to sort out what actually sold? what to accept the high bids on?
no buzz

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by guest2 on Sept 7, 2008 11:31:09 GMT 1, sale did seem lack luster. No atmosphere in the room, lots of people manning the phones but they just wasn't ringing. Parts of London Town seemed like a ghost town yesterday also.
It was the auctioneers 1st outting also I hear.

I would not think it was a flop as far as Phillips accounts go, they took 146.500GBP in buyers commissions alone, plus sellers commission of course and any incidental fees.

I'm not too sure on this figure as many things didn't sell but are being quoted on here as sold. Original banksy for instance didn't sell at £33k.

Everything that sold is in the results PDF, the unsold lots are still available for aftersale purchase. The figure that was taken at the sale is on the PDF.
"Total Sold (including premium): £ 586,038"

Ah, figures. His assistant seemed to be spotting more of the bids than he did! Had he brought the hammer down slightly quicker the supine would have been mine...ah well them's the breaks I suppose.

I agree that was a very nice price for the seller. Goes to show people will pay for classic pieces.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by Gallery My Arse on Sept 8, 2008 8:53:50 GMT 1, I thought the price were OK. People have gotten so greedy and the prices have been bonkers for the past 12-18 months that some normal prices breed disappointment. The saddest thing was the quantity of art there which was bought with no other intention than to make a quick buck.

Yeah the Blek's a print, well too be pedantic two types of print screen/aquatint and an etching to boot
£1k I've been wondering what to do with mine since I managed to get a Beggar a few weeks back, mmm I can feel a for sale thread coming on.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by Deleted on Sept 8, 2008 19:16:46 GMT 1, I think that like previous auctions, there were some shill/staged bidders involved. There are people that would lose a lot more than most people on the forums if the value of street art drops. This includes collectors and gallery owners. Paying an inflated price for one piece helps create a perception of high values for other pieces and ultimately their "portfolio".

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by guest2 on Sept 8, 2008 19:35:25 GMT 1, No one is going to pay an 'inflated' price for a blek beggar print. It's hardly going to rock the blek le rat market. Desert storm canvas is probably under what his primary gallery would sell for and if radar rat sold for 11k then i'd say thats the cheapest one that has sold for a while. If anything prices were down. A fair bit went unsold too.
