You could for example purchase artworks by artists in say the whitney biennial or other prestigious museum shows/awards shows etc. I just purchased two medium to large works by two different artists in the biennial. For a price that's really affordable - at least compared to what OGs sell for by many of the untested artists all over this forum. Neither of them have ever had any work at auction, and so I don't have to worry about manipulation of their pricing. But they both have extremely solid careers that span at least a decade and major accolades in the press. I expect them to both be major names in 10-20 yrs. But even still, with all this to go on, it's still a gamble, 1/2 of the artists from the biennials in the 90s could star in a where are they now VH1 style show. But the other half are stalwarts, so it's something solid to go on at least, better than the what's hype and hot on the internet rationale.
But then again it's hard to resist the temptation of the quick buck. I have a few times myself. It's why MBW and this whole scene has been so successful.

The McGuinness is superb, but then you'd expect it to be given that it's coming from the collection of Charles Saatchi along with a few other pieces in the sale.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by iamgeorgeous on Oct 1, 2010 17:03:28 GMT 1, The KAWS piece is a painting over pre printed canvas of C3P0 rather than the artist screening the image than painting over it. It's more like an ad-disruption without the actual ad and on canvas.
The Kilgallen is beautiful.

The McGinness was a beauty and not a bad price at £18k.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by andrewd on Dec 4, 2010 20:07:41 GMT 1, I went in for a look today. I've got 2 of the original Clash posters that are being sold as a series of 8 for £4K. A few streety arty bits in there. Wonder what the Adam Neate will fetch? ( Queens Head ) I like Phillips. Want the Kevin Cummins Joy Division photo of the bridge in Hulme showing the block of flats I lived in as a student!

Anyone think it's strange that the x3 Dface and Insect have been grouped into one lot?
