Martin Whatson โข THE CRACK & SNEAK PEAK , by Acme Thunderer on Dec 23, 2021 19:39:04 GMT 1, Afraid you are completely wrong, the Martin Whatson mini prints were never given away free as they were sold a limited release as signed and numbered. It was only the Snik and Findac mini prints that were given away at with main releases at vault sales. afraid your wrong They were given away free with some releases๐ Once posted on the internet, itโs hard to change ๐ Signed and numbered mini prints were not given away free on release and always sold out (with the amount released).
By thinking this timed release will affect the MW market negatively gives me no confidence to take your comments with any accuracy.

Martin Whatson โข THE CRACK & SNEAK PEAK , by max1 on Dec 23, 2021 19:51:23 GMT 1, I think the print quality of these will be similar to GP's usual releases, the last Whatson release was also partially giclee with screen print.
I would agree it is pricey, but anyone just wanting their first official Whatson artwork on their wall to enjoy will pay this.

Itโs not about the time release Itโs about being unnumbered which a few other posters picked up on Itโs not really limited, is it ?

Acme, I think you are right about most things you said in this thread and I appreciate you taking the time explaining the type of prints these two timed editions are. However, mini prints were never meant to be sold. GP never sold them and yes, they gifted MW mini prints at the older vault sales. Not anymore. So you would get a mini print by MW if you bought a MW print at the vault sale. I got ER, Make Love and Chinook Heart like that. Again, they were never meant to be for sale in the primary market and I am pretty certain that GP and Martin never sold them. The only exception is Sea Spray (Sjรธsprรธyt), which is signed and numbered. That was meant to be for sale since the beginning, just like the mini Still Life. On another note, GP confirmed it is a timed release edition, not an open edition. It will be for sale for 12 hours and never again. I can't promise this is true, but that's what Graffiti Prints said. One last thing. Absolutely fair to hate, dislike or laugh about Martin Whatson's value. You all might be right about the future, but right now I believe his collectors are the ones that are laughing the most... I hope this post works right, as I suck at commenting on UAA and still can't figure out how to work this website out... Happy holidays everybody!

Without wishing to get involved in the giclee vs screen print debate, or to discuss whether or not this will hurt his market, would here be an appropriate place to state the opinion that these prints (along with the rest of his work, as far as I can tell) are utterly meaningless, throwaway garbage? Meaning no offence to his supporters, but is this essentially art for those that donโt actually like art? In the same way that cramming sawdust and excrement into oneโs face might be seen as food for those that donโt like food? Surely we are better than this superficial crap.
In the words of Jim Carey in the Grinch; โone manโs toxic waste is another manโs potpourriโโฆ.

I think the question really is... what is art? If someone finds something appealing to their eye then that is their version. Art has many levels rather like intelligence and in this version of the matrix there's a place for everyone.

Past few years most of the American buyers bought in, once they are aware of constant releases of old images and unnumbered pps they wonโt be hoovering up those prints. The highest prices are all driven by American buyers

Unfortunately will pass my last piece for this year was Camilla Engstrรถm

So an easy $200K+ each? Not too shabby for one release ๐คฃ

The vault is for the rare stuff to sell for big bucks. Why would they even bother with the 2 Whatsons that were meant for everyone to have a chance at grabbing to begin with? These will be all over eBay. These are to satisfy the collectors who are 0/10 in the lotteries. It won't appreciate like his other prints and are the less likely to resurface in the vault.

Sounds like a conspiracy theory against GP. You could say anything GP releases, even the usual numbered stuff, keeps being sold for years to come through the vault. You could say they reprint more unnumbered APs and PPs etc. On top of not being true, that's beside the point. The point is, this is not an open edition. Well, it was for 12 hours, but they are now sold out, the edition is now closed and it won't get reprinted. Stop spreading misinformation.
The vault is for the rare stuff to sell for big bucks. Why would they even bother with the 2 Whatsons that were meant for everyone to have a chance at grabbing to begin with? These will be all over eBay. These are to satisfy the collectors who are 0/10 in the lotteries. It won't appreciate like his other prints and are the less likely to resurface in the vault. the free unsigned mini whatsons have been in the vault sales, anything is possible once money is involved. its more the point being unnumbered and being pushed as a time released limited edition but in reality more will be printed and sold over the years to come Sounds like a conspiracy theory against GP. Would be a dumb move re printing numbered prints, the whole issue that others have picked up on over the years is the unnumbered stuff. The last few vaults have been setting the market prices

You don't get it. Vault sales set nothing. The market sets the prices. Then the vault sells at market prices. It's not the other way around. The vault is pointless if a print didn't appreciate in value on the secondary market first and became somewhat scarce. GP can't sell a print on the vault for ยฃ500 if there's a ton on eBay at cost for ยฃ195. And if GP do sell a print (originally ยฃ195) at ยฃ500 on the vault, well good for them and good for everyone who already owns the print, because guess what, it most likely means that everybody's ยฃ195 print is now at least close to being worth ยฃ500. Not bad. Now stop it with this reprint nonsense.

How many prints from this outfit do you own?
