Now the member "streetarted2020" informed me that I had won and asked for my shipping address.
I answered him and a day later he wrote me that the package has already been sent. I got the tracking number and an invoice for shipping.
I should pay $ 257.38.

Do you also think that such an invoice amount should be agreed upon together before starting the shipping process?
I‘m agree to cover shipping - but it have to be realistic pls.
Maybe I’m a bit oldschool, but in this situation I would have cleared that up with the „winner“ beforehand.
I reckoned for shipping with maybe $ 60 or maximum 100 or so…
but over $ 250.00 +fees/tax is a bit crazy for a showposter+ sticker.
He says also he have already pre paid $250.00 for a return trip and if i don't accept the package he has paid total $ 500.00 include the return!! That’s almost unbelievable.
He sent me an bill and it looks serious at first glance. The main problem in this discussion is that he didn't ask before sending it… damn.
Only fyi - If I ship to LA with this package dimensions I pay $ 65 UPS delivery within 72 hours, insured up to $500.

At the very least should have let you know if it was going to be more than anticipated and pre-paying for a return? That doesn't sound right. If on the outside chance you wanted to return it why would he pay for it and ask you to pay it back when you could just pay to ship it back. I think paying 1/2 of the shipping to cover it getting to you. The other half isn't your responsibility.

Shipping look exessive at least for that price you should be warn first before shipping , fyi send a parcel europe to us to my sis with express courrier for a bigger size/value for 80$ ...

Do not use UPS for shipping anything, extremely expensive. For a parcel this size, shipped flat from Los Angeles to some small town in Germany was $257.00 USD. I am disabled so I don’t drive and with Covid surging I wasn’t going to run all around town going from shipping place to shipping place. I understand $250 is expensive but shipping large pieces of flat art around the world safely and reliably isn’t cheap either. (Sent a smaller package recently, Fed Ex quoted $177 to UK.) Working with USPS hasn’t been the greatest but I have received a few pieces from forum members using UPS so I thought I would give it a try. When at the UPS store after waiting in line, doing the paperwork I put my credit card info in case the package was “undeliverable” they could send it back. It’s an Invader, I am not just going to abandon the parcel in Germany if it’s not received.
Cut to contacting the winner.
Messaged UrbanGermany after I left the shop, told him package was on its way and told him the cost of shipping. Radio silence for 24 hours. Sent another message with a photo confirmation of receipt payment and tracking. Finally responds, after some back and forth he says “this poster isn’t worth $250” “I really feel fooled” and “Do you really pay this price?” He has copies of the receipt.
Anyway to make a long story short told him if he doesn’t want to pay the $250 to refuse the package and send it back to me at another $250. on my ccard.

Do not use UPS for shipping anything, extremely expensive. For a parcel this size, shipped flat from Los Angeles to some small town in Germany was $257.00 USD. I am disabled so I don’t drive and with Covid surging I wasn’t going to run all around town going from shipping place to shipping place. I understand $250 is expensive but shipping large pieces of flat art around the world safely and reliably isn’t cheap either. (Sent a smaller package recently, Fed Ex quoted $177 to UK.) Working with USPS hasn’t been the greatest but I have received a few pieces from forum members using UPS so I thought I would give it a try. When at the UPS store after waiting in line, doing the paperwork I put my credit card info in case the package was “undeliverable” they could send it back. It’s an Invader, I am not just going to abandon the parcel in Germany if it’s not received. Cut to contacting the winner. Messaged UrbanGermany after I left the shop, told him package was on its way and told him the cost of shipping. Radio silence for 24 hours. Sent another message with a photo confirmation of receipt payment and tracking. Finally responds, after some back and forth he says “this poster isn’t worth $250” “I really feel fooled” and “Do you really pay this price?” He has copies of the receipt. Anyway to make a long story short told him if he doesn’t want to pay the $250 to refuse the package and send it back to me at another $250. on my ccard. I am not mad at UrbanGermay but dude, I don’t make the prices. And I am not trying to scam him. Which is absolutely the worst part. I am disappointed he doesn’t want to pay for shipping but for him to suggest I was doing something shady is what really bothers me. You basically have four options USPS, DHL, UPS or FED EX. All are expensive. I can post the receipt for proof. So, I probably won’t be doing any more giveaways anytime soon. Maybe I’ll keep it, if he sends it back. Have you seen what these babies are going for on eBay? (Just kiddin) But I will absolutely pay for shipping for my international Secret Santa. Who knows, maybe they will get an Invader OTI showcard? (Rolled up in a small tube)

The only flaw I see is the missing communication. Damn, you have spent a lot of money!.. that annoys me!
This poster is great as a gift and I give credit to someone giving it away - but it's not worth $250 to me. sorry.
And for this shipping costs, I would have allowed you to find another winner.

The shipping price for the package sent to me, also was very high to the UK but as it was a trade we other agreed to cover the shipping of the package we are sending.
I personally don’t feel like he’s trying to scam you, but I agree the shipping could have been done cheaper.

That shipping price is insane. I sent a literal crate 105x80x10 - 16kg to Texas a few months back for £85.
What value did you insure it at? UPS insurance is really high and you're usually better off using a separate insurance service like shipsurance or similar.

If you want a higher insurance you must special order it.

After he suggested that I was trying to scam him, I felt he should not benefit from your donation. I asked him to send it to me so I could make sure of that. Clearly I'm not someone who minds paying for shipping lol. Out of principle, I was willing to pay for the shipping to return it to you. I mentioned selling your donation to recover the cost as a way to emphasize to him that this is a loss for me. I wanted him to know that this well-intentioned thing turned into something I did not anticipate.
Secondly, as of this writing the shipment is still in transit. I was going to reach out to you and explain the situation after I get confirmation that he indeed refused the package. I wasn't going to reach out prematurely.
The shipment label says the actual weight is 1.60 lbs. I did not tell UPS to print 7.00 lbs or manipulate the label in any way. I can't explain why it says 7.00 lbs.

Shipping flat won't have helped. A tube would have worked out cheaper.

They calculate a volumetric weight. 7 lbs will be the bracket it falls under. Shipping flat won't have helped. A tube would have worked out cheaper. |

Streetarted, I think it's cool what you are trying to do but suggest getting confirmation of the shipping price in advance, even if it does mean 2 trips to UPS. Winning something is one thing. Having to pay to get it, even a small amount, sometimes makes it not worth it for the winner.
Previously living in LA, I used to see all kinds of ads for people selling the stuff they won on game shows because they didn't want to pay for the tax on it. Free, sure. Discounted? No thanks.

I’m the lucky winner of the INVADER giveaways. Crazy - thanks to all involved people! Surprise - I never win otherwise ^^ Now the member "streetarted2020" informed me that I had won and asked for my shipping address. I answered him and a day later he wrote me that the package has already been sent. I got the tracking number and an invoice for shipping. I should pay $ 257.38. wow... Now my question. Do you also think that such an invoice amount should be agreed upon together before starting the shipping process? I‘m agree to cover shipping - but it have to be realistic pls. Maybe I’m a bit oldschool, but in this situation I would have cleared that up with the „winner“ beforehand. I reckoned for shipping with maybe $ 60 or maximum 100 or so… but over $ 250.00 +fees/tax is a bit crazy for a showposter+ sticker. He says also he have already pre paid $250.00 for a return trip and if i don't accept the package he has paid total $ 500.00 include the return!! That’s almost unbelievable. He sent me an bill and it looks serious at first glance. The main problem in this discussion is that he didn't ask before sending it… damn. Only fyi - If I ship to LA with this package dimensions I pay $ 65 UPS delivery within 72 hours, insured up to $500. Really, I don't want to be ungrateful, but this process bothers me (!) and if that's always the case, I don't want to win anymore please.
