Collectors in Texas, by samartguy on Jan 14, 2022 4:21:28 GMT 1, I'm in Austin, you probably guessed that....
Would consider myself entry as well. Bought a few new prints last month, including: Hebru Brantley, Cleon Peterson, El Pez.
What's your last purchase?

Collectors in Texas, by New Wave Dave on Jan 14, 2022 4:55:36 GMT 1, I'm in Austin, you probably guessed that.... Would consider myself entry as well. Bought a few new prints last month, including: Hebru Brantley, Cleon Peterson, El Pez. What's your last purchase? Funny story. My re-interest in street art happened because of a tennis tournament for my son in Austin a month or so back. We were looking for things to do and stumbled into a gallery there showing a street art exhibit (sure you know the one. Name is escaping me right now). Fell in love with the Paul insect Clockwork British piece and the huge Cleon Peterson. That lead me to goofing on the web and to the discovery of this page.
My recent purchases have also been a Cleon Peterson; the vase offered on NTWRK. Love it - kicking myself for not pulling the trigger on the print released a few days ago. I just wasn't familiar enough with his work and thought they would sit for a few days. I also picked up a Chris Rwk from the 212 Gallery show 'On the Road'
Have been looking for local TX artists to check out but not much luck on that front.

Collectors in Texas, by New Wave Dave on Jan 14, 2022 4:56:38 GMT 1, I've noticed there's someone here in Houston with tons of Cleon Peterson and other related artists selling on ebay. Gonna explore and see if it's a nearby gallery.

Collectors in Texas, by User Error on Jan 14, 2022 6:10:55 GMT 1, Check out Michael Reeder (and his lady friend Rachel) in Dallas. I believe they moved from LA a year ago. There's a Reeder discord giveaway for a small OG block. Here's my invite if you wish to use it...I gain nothing. Just sharing.

I'll check my IG to see who else I follow from Texas.

Collectors in Texas, by dundun on Jan 14, 2022 19:45:16 GMT 1, I've noticed there's someone here in Houston with tons of Cleon Peterson and other related artists selling on ebay. Gonna explore and see if it's a nearby gallery. Naw he's just a collector who does the same thing most of us do to build our collection(buy lots of stuff and sell off the things that wont make the walls after we've held them for a bit). He used to be on thegiant.org back in the day but I cant remember his username.
I'm in ATX and i'd be down for some kind of a meetup. TBH I find most of the street/contemporary art here to be pretty mostly derivative of other artists(we even had a fake invader many years ago). The real money is in Dallas/Houston and the collectors there have pretty good taste, so you're more likely to see world class art in those cites museums and galleries.
The Shepard Fairey x Sandra Chevier mural is the highlight here. There is also an old Shep mural at Empire and some decent stuff from when PowWow was here ages ago, but that's about it. When Alec Monopoly did a mural here people flipped out like it was amazing that he did a mural here. lololol.
As far as local talent there isn't much that I actually like(yes this is subjective). It's very southwest/hippy and not what I'm into. There are a couple of dope old school writers like Mez Data and Sloke, but that's about it. I used to work in advertising and we scoured the scene trying to get local artists to paint murals for our clients. The ridiculous prices they quoted were higher than well established street artists from bigger cites. I'm not gonna call out any names but they know who they are.
I definitely to connect with some people who are into the global art scene though.

That was it. Suggest checking it out. Had lots of Risk stuff, a Blek le Rat, lots of others. First time I had seen a Banksy IRL. Love is in the Air print. Hate to say it but it was kinda underwhelming among these larger, powerful graffiti pieces.

Collectors in Texas, by samartguy on Jan 15, 2022 0:43:48 GMT 1, AGREED.
I've lived in LA, San Francisco and NYC and it's been a huge adjustment in Austin regarding seeing quality art in person. That's probably why i've just spent more time online now. I've only located secondary galleries here showing works by urban/street artists; WCC and SoCo Modern. Not sure about Dallas or Houston in that regards.
It's nice to drop in at WCC to browse once in awhile, but feel it's better buying print releases by publishers and artists directly for now. Or just online through other galleries outside Austin, like Thinkspace Gallery.
New acquisitions over past few months include: Hebru Brantley and El Pez.
AGREED.

Collectors in Texas, by samartguy on Jan 15, 2022 0:45:55 GMT 1, I have been following Michael Reeder for a few months now. Seems like he is on the rise.
Tried the lottery for his latest print at Hashimoto Contemporary but didn't here back.
