Art Storage UK, by Unica on May 8, 2016 23:45:26 GMT 1, I'm hoping someone can help me, i'm looking for an place to store prints near London. I have several prints in a flat file and would like to put them in a secure environment for a few months possibly. Is there such a place where one can rent a draw that caters to this? The prints are quite valuable and I don't want to take any chances. I know I could just rent a storage room but i've had issues before with storage units, not having temperature controls and having leaks. I'm not looking for a huge room, just a drawer really that is secure, anyone know if something like this exists? Thanks.

I don't know about London but they do have some here in California near the San Diego area( I know that doesn't help you) but I'm sure there are some in London. As to how much they charge, I have no idea. Good luck.

I tried rental a yellow storage space last year that wasn't even art oriented and it was much more.

Art Storage UK, by Johnny Sarcasm on Jan 17, 2022 18:24:48 GMT 1, Hello
Wondering if anyone can help me...?
My insurance company (Hiscox) wants me to install a new alarm system as the value of my collection has increased somewhat over the last few years.
I don't really want to bother with all that and wondered if any of you can recommend a storage facility that would look after some of my collection as well as it being insured whilst with them.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Art Storage UK, by Poster Bob on Jan 18, 2022 12:19:19 GMT 1, As an aside, I've never really been a one for insurance. If you got burgled, I suspect they would take your laptop before they thought of taking your Banksy or Invader hanging on the wall. Most people know diddly squat about art. Fire, escape of water and accidental damage are all real things as are art thieves who take orders. Art storage is not cheap and the one-off cost of alarm installation and monthly monitoring fees should be quickly surpassed by the cost of continued storage.

I'm with Hiscox too and use SimpliSafe (name suggests it fell off the back-end of a lorry but it's surprisingly effective and head-ache free). You can choose your level of service. A doddle to set up and operate. And you get nice stickers to paste all over your house ...

Art Storage UK, by A Broke Collector on Jan 20, 2022 8:05:08 GMT 1, ADT (If Available) is a viable option. I have Hiscox here in the US and they accept it. Iโd have to check for the exact numbers but I donโt think itโs more than $60 a monthโฆ. Far cheaper than storage even with the added cost of insurance.

Store your stuff off the floor or in a container. No one knows it's there. (unless you tell someone).
Safe as houses no?

Art Storage UK, by Eastend Boy 13 on Jan 21, 2022 17:31:07 GMT 1, Is there a danger using a high street self-storage facility that fine art prints etc could be damaged by deterioration/mould etc, if the facility doesn't have an air-conditioned or temperature-controlled environment? I have a unit in a new purpose-built self-store, but not sure if it is advisable to store prints there...

Art Storage UK, by Pete the Post on Oct 11, 2022 14:21:25 GMT 1, Does anyone have experience of art storage on the south coast? Looking to store a collection for a while and have no idea where to even start.
So, climate controlled or otherwise, but if youve had experience of it and can help me out that would be great.

Art Storage UK, by Make Paint Work on Oct 11, 2022 20:16:48 GMT 1, How long do you think theyโll be in storage? And is it prints or canvases/acrylics youโre looking to store?
Only asking as these could take years to deteriorate as theyโre very stable materials, so while others might cringe at the thought, I wouldnโt be averse to considering somewhere like Big Yellow, if youโre looking for a short-medium term solution. Itโs expensive but a fairly consistent and moderate temperature.

The person that owns it wont entertain the idea of big yellow. In fairness, its a lot of stuff.

They handle lots of blue-chip artwork, international shipping, installation and storage needs. Sounds like art handling will be equally as important alongside storage requirements along with appropriate insurance.
