Art as an investment , by Deleted on May 11, 2020 19:43:33 GMT 1, I wouldnโt ask for medical advice on an art forum. Asking for financial advice on an art forum would give me no more confidence. thats a shame cause I was just about to post a pic of this boil i have on my arse and see what the good members could advise.
lance it with a Knitting needle
Or if you're feeling confident, place a drawing pin on a seat where you think the boil might be when you sit down, and see if You are indeed a lucky boy

Art as an investment , by Deleted on May 11, 2020 19:46:09 GMT 1, Wonder if anyone's had any experience in using investment platforms such as Masterworks.io? I've got ยฃ5-10k that I would like to invest in some art and wondering whether these types of companies are worth a look or whether it's best to buy a couple of pieces from known artists that I enjoy and go it alone? All a risk of course but these investment platforms seem to have some industry knowledge behind them and realistically I'm not sure what I could get with that figure that might be a worthwhile investment (except of course being a nice edition to a wall). Would be interested to know members thoughts.

I don't know if that list was posted anywhere, but it was useful to me in discovering a lot of artists that I love today. I don't know if your platform is something that's similar.

Art as an investment , by edge on Aug 15, 2020 8:57:42 GMT 1, Hi Everyone,
I'm loving this group. Just joined this week and I love reading everyones comments and advise
I have been collecting art for the last 10 years and have some nice pieces on my wall
Looking for some advise if thats ok? Who's a good artist to invest in right now, as Banksy's are crazy prices now (Glad a got mine 12 years ago)
Anyone you think would be a good investment for the future???
Thanks for your honest and help x

That is the typical boring and cliche advice. If people truly believed this they would all just buy decorative pieces and replicas to hang on their wall. If youre going to spend thousands (or in some cases millions) of pounds on something, itโs as asset and unless you have money to burn, you should consider its investment merits. To answer the OPs question it is a gamble trying to guess the artist which is going to leap up in value. Iโve given up trying to guess which fresh emerging artists will make it big and try and look at mid career or established artists (who have some secondary sales under their belt) which look under valued, my money is on Katherine Bradford, Mel Bochner (selected worlds), Jonathan Lyndon Chase, Richard Mudariki and Guy Yanai.

Picasso sales, Murmure Street, Oli Epp... not really urban is it? I know things change and evolve but itโs all become a bit gentrified around here I reckon.

True... We need some good, new and fairly priced street/urban releases.
James Cauty (not VERY โstreetโ, I know, but in the right direction) had a print release this week, but no mention here. Just ยฃ125, and unique! Invader still gets talked about, and the t-shirts, maps were good recently... but prints are harder to get these days.

I really feels to me that its only about the investment now. Financially I guess Iโve got lucky from my time here but that not the point. Iโd rather have exciting releases where you can get the buzz than a place full of hedgefunders scoffing at the rest because they can spunk ยฃ20k on something.

You know nothing about the art world. I would immediately pay 100k for a work (even if it is worth less) if I liked it, but I wouldn't hang a reproduction on my wall, has nothing to do with art. Don't think that the collectors on Instagram and in the forums will make out the collectors and regulate the market price, that will be a rude awakening.

They dictate the next big thing, but you'll need deep pockets at that level. As advised look around and find some art that you like and buy it because you like it, then you have little to lose. checkout grad shows etc...
Besides the obvious Banksy there are the artists whose supply is minimal such as Stik.
