Aljazeera stream art chat, by Hugos There on Mar 16, 2022 10:35:55 GMT 1, I've just finished watching the last few minutes of The Stream on Aljazeera this morning. It finished at 9 and it's interactive with you tube and twitter etc so I guess there will be a way of watching it back.
It was a really interesting art chat and featured some really knowledgeable and passionate people.
Just in the few minutes I watched they were talking to artists who among others are building tank traps rather than making art right now. But when you look at the tank traps they could easily be an exhibit in a museum or gallery for many many reasons.
The fact that there are scores of people defending and protecting museums and galleries from the Russians which contain valuable and important Russian art is ironic and totally mind blowing.
Maria Pyrmachenko's work was mentioned. I've not heard of her before but she sounds amazing and you can definitely see parts of her art that influenced Picasso and Chagall among others.
The contributors were suggesting that Russia should be banned from Unesco for their crimes against the culture and art world which adds a whole new dimension and understanding of the war from the perspective of art lovers.
The above is a snippet of what went on in the last few minutes and I'll look forward to watching the rest when I can find it.
As a slight change in subject I've been watching Aljazeera for the last couple of weeks and their coverage of the news and the way they conduct interviews makes Sky, ITV and the BBC look like amateurs.. Having spent a long time skipping through the last 3 channels every morning for the last couple of years and seeing and endless lazy cycle of inane repetitive questioning, dedicated government bashing and lazy journalism, it's a refreshing change.
