Yes some of his new stuff is amazing

How The Mighty Have Fallen, by Carl Cashman Art on Mar 18, 2022 10:44:55 GMT 1, I am big fan and there are one or two prints I still like of his work. But it is how the system works though, styles change, art goes through phases and hype fades etc. Say from ten years ago there are many artists where their prices have declined, but there must be thousands of artists from decades previously where their art commanded big sums and now their originals and prints can be found cheap. Makes you wonder what will happen to the many $4k prints which were bought during covid and rich people spending big on originals. Crazy money was spent a print. Increased prices are not sustainable in hard economic times, which looks like happening all over with tightening up. There will be bargains to be had perhaps in coming years me thinks. 🤔 I paid £200 for a Peacekeeper print last year, just need a grand to frame it now lol.

How The Mighty Have Fallen, by churchwood on Mar 18, 2022 10:51:30 GMT 1, I think two factors - the size is a massive issue for most - me included - what's a standard wall these days floor to ceiling is around 2.5m I think. I know a lot of his work is pretty dark but this is another level darkness and I imagine the market for it as a result is pretty niche. A while back someone on here was selling a Dale Grimshaw piece that was stunning but at the same time there is no way I could have hung it at home That Grimshaw was fantastic. Showed it to my wife and that was the end of that. Rookie mistake. I made the same error - I thought i was covering my backside when in fact I was sealing its fate in that its fate was never to belong to me after she saw it :-)
I guess someone he bought it - it was really well priced too - lucky buyer whoever it was

Years ago I had a very early Grimshaw, before his current style. Tittle was Salome. Adored it. Sold it by necessity. Miss it to this day. Fabulous artist and lovely chap. If anyone here has my Salome, please let me know. By a total fluke, I saw him on BBC1 last Sunday early evening and he came across as a really nice guy, pretty talented too with an interesting background - loved the mohawk photos in his studio from his youth.

How The Mighty Have Fallen, by My Name is Frank on Mar 24, 2022 12:26:32 GMT 1, His latest instagram post made my jaw drop, I love the bloke, a super talent. I would happily give him the parasite cost for any of them, but suspect that they will cost rather more, which hopefully frames the outlying result comment I made earlier about parasite.

Let’s see what happens when the market turns and artists, galleries and slippers can’t use smoke and mirrors to price manipulate.

How The Mighty Have Fallen, by sandinista on Mar 24, 2022 13:37:04 GMT 1, I personally wouldn't buy anything that measures 3m x 3m. I don't have the wall space. And even if I did, I don't think I would want to fill it with just one artwork anyway. ideal. stuff the back with insulation and save on heating. Will pay for itself in a week or 2.

How The Mighty Have Fallen, by Jimini Cricket on Mar 24, 2022 22:42:46 GMT 1, I loved him then , what a great canvas by the way , But his new style is even better for me I’d rather have one of those massive impasto pieces than a banksy print They are off the scale good. No one else comes close in the way he puts the paint down and has evolved , some artists regurgitate the same old same old Judge him on something else not this result I don’t know why he peaked and then sort of secondary prices fell off , no idea but he has always remained one of my top 5 full stop
Adrian Ghenie and Yukimasa Ida shit all over Micallef. Yes I own both artists's work. No, they are not for sale.

How The Mighty Have Fallen, by vic on Mar 25, 2022 11:54:28 GMT 1, I remember seeing Parasite at the Royal Academy way back, it's amazing.
Agreed, pretty niche but it still sold so there's no problem. One result and all that.
Didn't Banksys Monkey canvas fail to sell at Philips recently and that horrible painting also by Banksy, 'Go Flock Yourself' get pulled from the same auction.
All artist have good and bad days I guess

Care to expand why? AG and YI are in some pretty big collections, repped by some serious galleries and are auction heavy hitters. Bring on the facts.

How The Mighty Have Fallen, by My Name is Frank on Mar 27, 2022 12:40:39 GMT 1, No one shits on anyone, gallery representation can put a black dot into big collections (especially pace) and the measure of an artist is not value at auction.
Remove their names, stack the works side by side ranging from 10 years ago till now, who would be the most impressive? Sadly I can only be subjective, so neither of us are right. I think Micallef is a vastly more impressive artist than the two you offered, which you prefer, but none shit on the other by any measure.
Horses for courses and all that.

Appreciate the context for your preference.👍 I respect that everyone is different and we like what we like. An artist should not be bashed when they're trying to make a living.
