Ai Weiwei Artist's Hand Sculpture, by Duke Down Stairs on Jan 20, 2020 6:21:20 GMT 1, It's an edition of 1000.
3 or 6 or 20 units for sale is miniscule.
Ai Weiwei is a major artist and that's a good piece.

Ai Weiwei Artist's Hand Sculpture, by bottlenecknyc on Jan 21, 2020 5:06:18 GMT 1, very rarely there is an auction that is some absurd price but for a while now they have been hovering around $4k for the most part. One sold on ebay just last week for ยฃ4k and two right before that sold for 4k and less. Its been the range for a while.

Ai Weiwei Artist's Hand Sculpture, by nobokov on Jan 21, 2020 19:04:41 GMT 1, Amazing to think that it took just a few fake sales on eBay to skyrocket to this price level. Fake sales? Fake sales, as in people with multiple accounts purchasing their own stuff so it looks like an actual sale. Not long after release, the prices hovered around $1500, then a few fake sales were sprinkled in, fooling others to start buying at the next price level and now it's really at $5000. It's just interesting to see how value is created from an unsigned edition of 1000 that was released for $675 and free shipping. It's great stuff.

And no one is paying the ebay premium of 10% to fake these sales.

So a person with multiple accounts can make the transaction private 'buyer's identities protected', and they purchase their own using the accounts and never pay. Now those hands are actually worth $5k or whatever. I should've kept mine.

How do you know they were fake sales? I personally think they shot up rapidly as a result of some good results in hi-profile auction houses. Heโs a pretty well established artist. Banksys unsigned editions originally started at ยฃ350....how is that different? Anyway perhaps a subject for a different thread rather than a sale post. You may be right, you may be wrong.

My apologies for including information that doesn't help to prop up prices. It was pretty early on. You see this with tons of sales on ebay where the buyers identities are private and the price sold is much higher than any other price available at the time of purchase. For example if an item is sold for $5000 and there are 20 others available for $1000. It's pretty much fake. But it's a great way to get prices moving upward.
I was just remarking on how amazing it is. Good luck with the sale.

Thanks, all good. Itโs swings and roundabouts as iโm also trying to buy a sunset or rve at vastly inflated prices.

Soon after the cheapest ones were sold on eBay and the prices went up since. It peaked at 6k then went down to the current prices.

You are basing what you think the current price should be off the price where you sold yours. It's bounced back since. Sorry you sold when you did.

Accept no less and don't believe anyone who tells you it's worth less than that. Bargain at these prices if you ask me. It's lusterous, so heavy in your hands, and iconic ai wei wei as you'll ever get, unless if you buy Ai Weiwei himself wrapped in an emergency blanket. GWLTS! Man you are really sour today. Sometimes you're wrong, and it's ok to be wrong but no need to be so sour about it. You are basing what you think the current price should be off the price where you sold yours. It's bounced back since. Sorry you sold when you did. I'm not sour, you just won't seem to let this end. I made no mention of what I think the prices should be. I think the price level is great and I made a good profit selling when I did.
The fake sales I'm talking about is prior to all of the auction house sales. If you think these are signed, then that's great. If you think that fake sales don't exist, great. Please try to consign that signed ai weiwei book to Christie's and have a great day.
You people all are correct. This thing is worth at least 15,000. Accept no less and don't believe anyone who tells you it's worth less than that. Bargain at these prices if you ask me. And for the price, it went down in the last six months. itโs pointless arguing that itโs worth more if no one wants to trade/buy for that much. If you can try to sell it at auction and buy the invader for that money.

I hope you have a nice rest of your day Nobokov. I mean it. xo

One of those Jonas Wood posters sold in Sotheby's Hong Kong for over 3,000euro including fees

Ai Weiwei Artist's Hand Sculpture, by Deleted on Jan 21, 2020 23:58:22 GMT 1, Fake sales, as in people with multiple accounts purchasing their own stuff so it looks like an actual sale. Not long after release, the prices hovered around $1500, then a few fake sales were sprinkled in, fooling others to start buying at the next price level and now it's really at $5000. It's just interesting to see how value is created from an unsigned edition of 1000 that was released for $675 and free shipping. It's great stuff.
welcome to the art world
Though I dont see why anyone would create fake sales.
I would understand an artist doing it, Like Hirst etc. is that what your alluding to?
Or do you really think certain people purchased lots and stashed them then put them in auctions and bought them back, and control the hand stock and pricing
oooooh
