Hi everyone. So Anthony, or STRA, for those of you who know him from the street art world in Portugal, London, France and other parts of Europe, Australia and Asia, had suffered a hermorrhagic stroke on 6th March 2021. He collapsed without warning in our art studio. His brainstem and cerebellum got affected which rendered him paralyzed and speechless. Our world plunged into a nightmare as his doctors told us that he might not wake up at all and if he does, to our horror, that he might be a vegetable. He fell into a coma for 2 weeks. By the 3rd week he opened his eyes and proved all his doctors wrong by moving his fingers, then his eyes, then his limbs. He started responding to yes and no questions by blinking 2 weeks after he woke up, the doctors were in disbelief. This video is a documentation of his recovery journey, each movements he gained proved all his doctors wrong until one medical malpractice that was done to him in a rehab facility which caused a severe setback. We’ve blurred his face partially as his wish is to remain incognito on the internet to keep his street artist identity discreet. You can see his emotions from his eye, to better understand the situation.
Each clip is edited in chronological order starting approximately from April to May 2021 until February 2022. You can see how in the first 50 seconds of the video he was making a lot of gains and on December 3rd 2021 he suddenly lost everything earnings due to a misdiagnosis that resulted in inappropriate medication at the Rovisco Pais Rehabilitation Center in Tocha, Portugal. It took us 2 months to get the truth from a second physical evaluation done at CNS In Lisbon. He had been undernourished, dehydrated and understimulated, causing weakness and lost of movements. He even started developing pressure sores due to a lack of movement. After 2 harrowing months of standing our ground, we were finally able to transfer him to the highly professional and competent team at Santa Casa da Misericordia Continuous Care in Barcelos where he regained his progress and started making a lot more improvements. He started making noises, started communicating with his hands, even started walking a few steps! He started regaining his attitude towards life that we have all sorely missed. His confidence & determination to recover and get his life back on track is super strong. He has so much trust and patience in himself to recover as much as possible, even after going thru so much medical trauma. However, he still needs the best team to help and guide him in this recovery. Unfortunately the public health service can only offer 3 months of rehab in Barcelos. We have been referred to excellent neurologists and rehabilitation centres in Europe to ensure his ongoing rehabilitation but these will come at a price. We desperately need to raise funds so STRA can continue his journey in taking his power back and get back to creating art on the streets that he loves so much.
The following is the breakdown of costs
€2500/month +
€900 Physiotherapy 4h/day +
€500 Other therapies (speech/occupational)
Total per month €3900
1year of therapy - €46,800
