David Shrigley, by Wanchope on Apr 24, 2022 22:39:05 GMT 1, Hi All, a quick question if I may? I have been offered a shrigley and one that both my wife and I like - happy days and agreed a price on the assumption of COA included be it a purchase email from the original gallery or the COA (presuming they come with them).
However the seller who I have to say is good to deal with, can’t find either of the above just an email from PayPal, but not stating a date or the print name. He has looked high and low and the gallery won’t reissue a coa and they have changed their system and no longer have records from 2017/2018.
So I am happy to honour the price, but this will niggle at me. Is this a big problem? I know provenance is essential on you know who’s prints so again, is the lack of provenance a big problem from your point of view?
All the best

I’d say not really, I’ve never asked for a COA for any work that I’ve bought secondary - if it turns up with one that’s cool. That being said a lot of buyers, especially ones with less exposure to an artist would like that peace of mind but the only fake I’ve ever ended up with had a COA anyway.

David Shrigley, by Horatio Nelson on Apr 24, 2022 23:56:52 GMT 1, If it’s Jealous, I know they can provide a replacement CoA if the original is lost (they did for me). They will want to see the print and also the number/signature (almost always on the reverse with Shrigley).
Did the seller buy directly from a gallery or on secondary? It seems strange for the PayPal not to have the details.

I wouldn’t do the transaction. Which gallery doesn’t have their records for an entire year of sales?! No.

David Shrigley, by tcb on Apr 25, 2022 3:06:41 GMT 1, Some Shrigleys come with a COA some don't. Paypal receipt from that year to the publisher sounds legit to me.
May I ask which print?

David Shrigley, by Wanchope on Apr 25, 2022 7:13:53 GMT 1, Shrig Shop didn’t issue a COA with their signed editions as of last year. Does the seller happen to have any email, payment xfer, packaging that would help? it was purchased in 2018 and deleted the purchase emails.

I can’t state the print yet, but it was 4 years ago and PayPal so far have just said there was a payment to Schafer of x amount. It doesn’t have a date of the transaction or what print it relates to. The seller is going to try again between the gallery and PayPal as he has a transaction number now. Fingers crossed !!
