I assumed there must have been another round of collectors that got an earlier preview as I checked it 5min or so after getting the email with only the 2 largest originals still available.

The Hold On paper print will still be released in person only (if they arrive on time).
They also had 24 canvases that will be at the show available to buy and 22 appeared sold out the minute info was sent out (to selected people which I was one of). The 2 that were not sold out had sat unsold for a long while afterwards which surprised me if everything else had been sold within a minute.
The sceptical side of me wonders if the 22 were already presold before the presale to genuine collectors. 😉

We would have received the same email preview invite with the password. Looks like they were presold before being offered to us. Poor form if that is the case.

Who just bought everything from Vertical Gallery?, by Streetsrna on May 5, 2022 17:02:50 GMT 1, Ya just now seeing the email. I received it at 6:14am PST for what it's worth. Only one item left though. I agree with you if all were sold out in the first minute. Probably already had a buyer before showing it.

Yep, we had the same time of email. 😉
Wouldn’t be unusual if appeared sold out during the checkout process, but for 22 to appear sold out immediately is a bit suss.

Just heard back from Patrick, link went to regular gallery collectors first. No surprise, just could have been communicated better.

Just heard back from Patrick, link went to regular gallery collectors first. No surprise, just could have been communicated better. Cheers for confirming my suspicions - I had several other members privately tell me the same thing is common practice with Vertical. 😉 I had been in contact with the gallery for weeks about specific pieces which I knew was going to be there so we now know they happily string people along and mislead them.
Below is the email we received that said they were giving us a chance to purchase early. When this email was sent out, 22 of the 24 works were already sold out, so there was no chance to purchase early (and the canvas available could not even be shipped!). It was originally a password page but you don’t need the PW to access anymore and the show opens today anyway.
I’m still happy to buy from anyone who was lucky enough to purchase originally (after the show ends of course). 😁

Hi all
We have been flooded with preview requests for Hama Woods’s show, and are trying to be as fair as possible. Here is the preview. Do not to share the link (or post on any social media) since we’re trying to give those of you that requested the preview a chance to purchase early. verticalgallery.com/collections/hama-woods-enjoy-the-silence password: oslo Please note: the print is not on this link. We will make the print available once they arrive from Oslo. We are planning in-person on Saturday, and then on-line Monday. But again, it all depends when they actually arrive in Chicago. The print is an edition of 45, and is $295. Please don’t reply to this email asking for a print, we’ll post details on social media once we have them.
Thank you, Patrick Patrick Hull Owner/Curator Vertical Gallery 1016 N. Western Ave. Chicago, IL 60622 773-697-3846 patrick@verticalgallery.com www.verticalgallery.com

Who just bought everything from Vertical Gallery?, by Acme Thunderer on May 7, 2022 10:05:08 GMT 1, So you were happy to be given early access, but upset your early access wasn’t as early as other!? No different than being invited to a gallery preview opening (by the gallery and artist) as you are told that is the first time anyone can buy. Then after turning up first, you go through the door and everything already has red ‘sold out’ dots.
No surprises that it happens, but there is no need to be misleading about it.
Doesn’t bother me, but at least other members will be aware how Vertical operate at future shows.

I agree with Acme, poor form. Don’t offer an “early” viewing if there’s nothing to view for sale. Pointless gesture.
