Advice Needed: How to hang art on metal??, by Not 4 The Thril on May 17, 2022 3:39:59 GMT 1, Hello!
I just bought a painting on a piece of metal. It's a piece of a British double decker bus (19inches by 30 inches). It's jagged and not perfectly rectangle. I like the rugged and industrial look of it.
The way the framers suggested framing it would hid the jagged edges. Plus its not a completely flat piece so they are unable to mount it properly.
They suggested I get a welder to weld something on the back so I can hang it as is. Would that compromise the piece? I am a bit weary of having a welder take a blowtorch to a piece of art...
Any suggestions as to how I can get this on my wall? Thank you!

Advice Needed: How to hang art on metal??, by Charlesworth on May 17, 2022 6:42:16 GMT 1, I would really stay away from trying to weld anything to it. the heat generated would pass into the thin sheet metal causing the paint to discolour/ bubble & even cause warping/ ripples in the metal. My best suggestion would be to either use a two part epoxy resin glue to mount some sort of brackets or wood batons or have a shelf made to sit it on.

Advice Needed: How to hang art on metal??, by Happy Shopper on May 17, 2022 9:36:00 GMT 1, I have a similar piece from 4BySix and it came with hooks attached to the back. Does yours not?
The framer just used them to attach to the back board… although I’m not sure exactly how!

Advice Needed: How to hang art on metal??, by Jareds Mind on May 17, 2022 14:02:45 GMT 1, How heavy? Maybe a couple of double sided tape hooks. This co STAS makes great hanging and mounting solutions. Magnets may not work if it's aluminum.
I've used these hooks for an acrylic piece. They have a big one for up to 22lbs, maybe have two mounting points.

Advice Needed: How to hang art on metal??, by John The Badgers on May 17, 2022 16:42:39 GMT 1, Definitely not welding not4thethril, this will definitely damage it.
I would simply use a decent glue, and attach a standard picture hanging clip like this -
You can use specific adhesives used in production processes which are used instead of welding, but a decent epoxy would easily hold it. Just add your string, and good to go.
I've used this method on a couple of items and works a treat.
Cant find the thread, but did this on a Julian Opie tray a couple of years ago.
All the best with sorting.

I was a bit surprised really- just shipped it flat with no paperwork or anything.

Advice Needed: How to hang art on metal??, by startimeash on May 17, 2022 22:20:22 GMT 1, Def magnets - look at something used for magnet fishing as it will have an eye on it, and so will be easy to mount on some hooks on the wall. Bunch of stuff on Amazon; just search for “magnet fishing”. Make sure you don’t get your fingers between the magnet and the metal, because you can do yourself some proper damage!

Advice Needed: How to hang art on metal??, by Not 4 The Thril on May 23, 2022 15:12:12 GMT 1, ***UPDATE***
2 Framers have suggested I get it welded (CRAZY)
Magnets will not work because its aluminum (which also can't be welded)
I am unsure of gluing it or adding bondo to the back to the piece. I don't plan on selling it but I also don't want to play arts and crafts with the piece of art.
I think maybe the mirror hanging kit with some foam buffers might be the way to go.
