Large enough canvases, over 1m2 He sold them to someone else (all his work went in one swoop) and within a month, suddenly his art was worth $40-50k. artists might take off but not in that way. It happened at the same time as I was told that artists from Indonesia were the next to pump.
My guess is we wonโt be talking about Fika Leon in three years, much as we wonโt some of the other Indonesian artists that have been flying the past two years.
Itโs a shame because I liked the two pieces was buying.
I also realise Iโm open to accusations of bitterness but Iโm putting it out there nonetheless.

His earlier work is first class! His more recent work is open for debate.
He had a strong showing with a weak painting at Sothebys last month and an upcoming show with Bill Brady bodes well for him.
Will be interesting to see what happens. Could go either way

Fair points and undoubtedly his market was tampered with early on which is frustrating and off putting. His earlier work is first class! His more recent work is open for debate. I find most of the lots to be very poor in that auction so it isnโt really surprising that thereโs so few bidsโฆ

There's a decent one in Sothebys' 'Contemporary Discoveries' which will give a better indication of where his market is.
The show at Bill Brady is starting soon. Really big, strong works starting at ยฃ20k.
