Having art in room with log burner , by JAlternatión on Sept 16, 2022 0:21:25 GMT 1, Just moved into a house with a log burner in the front room recessed into the chimney breast. Everything is telling me to not put anything of value in the room due to smoke, but how paranoid am I being? Presumably some forumites must have similar rooms

Having art in room with log burner , by Happy Go Lucky Chap on Sept 17, 2022 11:51:35 GMT 1, If your log burner is causing there to be smoke in the room I’d get it serviced immediately. It will probably just need the chimney flue swept, or the door seal replaced, both inexpensive jobs that could save your health, and your art collection.
I get mine serviced every couple of years.

Having art in room with log burner , by JAlternatión on Sept 19, 2022 9:07:48 GMT 1, Thanks everyone, sounds like it's going to be a non issue (aside form nothing of value on the chimney). Haven't fired it up yet and will get it swept before I do but had seen somewhere some concern about small releases of smoke when opening the door. Sounds like everything will be fine here though

Having art in room with log burner , by Runit on Sept 19, 2022 12:17:56 GMT 1, check you door seal - get the chimney sweep round - install a smoke and CO2 alarm - don't hang anything on the chimney breast as it gets very warm. sit back and enjoy. no issues.

Having art in room with log burner , by We Have Your Prints on Sept 22, 2022 17:29:16 GMT 1, No issues if the woodburner and flue are working correctly. Try to empty the ash pan on a non windy day and always open the door slowly to prevent cold ash being blown into the room - you won't stop it all but you will significantly reduce the dust.
I have just installed one of the these (DR21) on the inlet to reduce wind noise and gusts - not had a chance to try it yet but it came highly recomeneded by the sweep and should help prevent cold dust from being blown about. Jay
