Forum help to a curiosity, by binksy on Oct 3, 2022 15:31:04 GMT 1, Hello forum, I've been reading them for years and I know there are many people here with more knowledge than mine, that's why I'm here to present a situation. I suppose that some of you have really expensive works, in the hypothetical case of wanting to sell it discreetly (without auctions...) which way would you choose? Is there a more private forum... or a website or putting yourself in the hands of third parties...? I hope someone can help me with this question, thank you very much in advance.

Forum help to a curiosity, by kashi on Oct 3, 2022 16:22:05 GMT 1, There are some pretty expensive items bought & sold via this forum. You might give it a try. The bigger auction houses will also run 'private sales' departments if you'd be up for that? If its stolen goods, then you'll have to sort out your own problems!

Thank you very much Kashi for your advice. I think I will investigate more about private sales departments. It's obviously not a stolen item, sorry if the way of approaching the thread can imply something like that.

If you have expensive works of art. You should do your own leg work and beware of the many so called middle men messers that crawl out of the wood work that tell you it's complicated and they have so called contacts and know the right people etc etc to sell your art for you. These people usually tell you one thing and as soon as your back is turned, tell other people something different and you end up in a compromise which leaves a bad taste.
Private forum beware of chancers and people who are not what they state.
Third parties. Never give and artwork to a third party. I'm talking individuals and some galleries and brokers.
If the artwork has a very high value. Then ask the auction houses to give you an auction estimate in writing. If you are looking for a private buyer you probably could go through an established high end gallery but the world being as it is today. people are people, money is money and greed is greed.
