Sounds very odd, the canvas has appliqued layers and is also the same size, but anything that uses "archival" anything on a Bast for sure ain't a genuine Bast :-). So an unsigned Bast Estate print. The canvas is from 2020. The interview you mention can be found here : vagazine.com/art/new-york-artist-bast-ardized-by-natalie-kates/

Similar to the Basquiat prints from Pace Prints and his estate. Those somehow still look to fetch far beyond what i would ever pay for something the artist really had no artistic say in/unsigned.

That last part is incorrect.
There is an interview with him in the 2010 book "Beyond the Street".

Bast • Sunday Morning • Avant Arte , by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Nov 7, 2022 22:55:18 GMT 1, Did these already sell out, not much discussion? I like it, nice edition size, it is a nice size and a lot of effort gone into with 25 colours and layers etc. So, it's not a bad price compared to some releases this year.
In terms of the background, is this a one off to raise money for his family or a cause? or will there be more releases?

Bast • Sunday Morning • Avant Arte , by disappointed on Nov 8, 2022 20:53:57 GMT 1, I’m a little surprised this has sold out.
It’s a fine enough image but very pricey for a largeish edition untouched by the artist. Also, a 25 screen print seems to be pretty much the opposite to how Bast would do things.
Quite an uncomfortable release really..

Quite an uncomfortable release really.. I actually find it to be the opposite, think it's really an amazing piece and commemorates the artist in a lot of ways, including hand painted elements, added textures, involvement by PINS (Possibly the one who hand painted pieces). Everything down to the paper seems exceptionally done. Much better than what I see PACE do for Basquiat's work or many other estates. I'm sure Paul wouldn't be behind this if it didn't live up to his best friends expectations.

Bast • Sunday Morning • Avant Arte , by blurp on Nov 8, 2022 21:34:46 GMT 1, Thanks for posting that interview, Bast was great. Not a fan of the estate sale image but hope it generates money for his family. Died too soon. The fact he had an open casket funeral was kinda odd.
Went out in an Avant email showing upcoming releases etc. €1,500 (ex. VAT) Edition of 80 Medium: 25 colour silkscreen print, with hand-painted acrylic glaze and 2 hand-cut appliqué layers – attached using archival, double-sided tape Dimensions: 82cm x 62cm Did you know? Bäst remained semi-anonymous throughout his career. He refused all interviews apart from one with Vagazine in 2012.

It still doesn't sit that well with me and, of course, now I fear that it might have sold asm some folk consider it to be a hand finished PINS x BAST piece rather than just a print studio 'BAST'.
For the record, I also consider 'estate' prints of notable, but deceased, artists whether it be Basquiat, Warhol, whoever, to be of little interest and not much more than money making exercises selling decoration rather than art. It's fine when it's a cheap print in the Tate but when priced at these sorts of levels it becomes problematic (for me).
As ever this is all highly subjective!

Good post mate and I have always thought on the same lines as you.
But having re read the Avante Art write up, it does say Bast was involved with this project (print) before he died. Now i am thinking, it is more like they have finished the project off for Bast and got Paul Insect involved which is great.
So probably this as a one off (with proceeds helping family out which is great) and no more to be made as with Basquiat and other after/estate prints. But we will have to see if they decide to produce another, If they do, perhaps it won't be received as well as this?.

I guess it's cool enough if it was a project started before his passing and I can see how that makes it a fine way to memorialise/commemorate one of the finest the scene will know. I'm even starting to want one a little now...
There is maybe an interesting debate to be had on the wider world, and artistic value, of estate editions.

I've certainly learned a lesson in taking time to maybe do a little reading before reacting/posting! I guess it's cool enough if it was a project started before his passing and I can see how that makes it a fine way to memorialise/commemorate one of the finest the scene will know. I'm even starting to want one a little now... There is maybe an interesting debate to be had on the wider world, and artistic value, of estate editions.
