Shepard Fairey at AMUSEUM in Munich, by ronanmc on Nov 7, 2022 18:23:43 GMT 1, For anyone who loves Shepard Fairey's art and mission, there is a super new exhibition at the new AMUSEUM of Contemporary Art in Munich. With 100 pieces, many originals, and some new for this exhibit.
I attended the launch night on November 5th, and got to meet the man himself. What an absolute gentleman he is - he must have talked to hundreds of people for over 4 hours, answering questions with an honesty and depth that it gave real insight into the imagery he uses, what he is trying to provoke, etc.
If you are looking for an excuse to visit Munich, this is it! Plus - he has two large relatively new murals, and there is even more Shepard Fairey at the nearby MUCA museum.
(Plus - The team at AMUSEUM / Positive Propaganda are absolute legends!)

I will be honest, and say that when you see the real pieces in the flesh, there is a lot more going on than in his prints and murals. He has built up layer upon layer, over old newspaper cuttings, and this gives you a much better sense of what the story is.
They are unbelievable. Amazing work really.
(I know some people on this forum have been quite cynical about Shepard in recent years, but I will say that whilst he is prolific, and yet some pieces are hard for real collectors to get, bear in mind that the proceeds from most of these are going towards great causes. He's not in this just for the money, unlike Hirst, for example).
