WTB Damien Hirst, by Michael Jacob on Apr 26, 2008 2:37:02 GMT 1, Theres an Lysergic Acid Diethylamide, (2000) on ebay tomorrow through Phillips de Pury and Co out of New York. Its starting at $4000 USD. Theres some condition issues which might scare some people away, but the price it right. Ebay 150238058300
Heres what they told me: Full colour lambda print on Gloss Fuji archival paper. Five small handling marks in the lower right quadrant. Two small scrapes in the upper left quadrant and one in the upper right quadrant. One 8 1/2 in. crease within the central portion and one small tear at the outer left edge. Upper edges slightly upturned and bent, and some buckling throughout. Please note this work is numbered “115/500” even so only 300 were printed. This work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

I think I could find $4000 better ways to spend my money than on a damaged print...

WTB Damien Hirst, by Winter on Apr 26, 2008 7:45:27 GMT 1, Friends of mine bought a Valium through ebay. They had it checked out by Eyestorm who said they couldn't confirm it was real and suggested they got their money back. My friends took it back to the people who had sold it who gave them a refund without putting up any form of challenge. It had a certificate with it and looked virtually identical to an original. Apparently eyestorm have a way of telling an original but won't reveal what it is. Be very careful and get eyestorm to check it if possible. I have an Opium I originally bought from Eyestorm in 2000. It was a wedding present so I can't sell it.

Apparantly David at Eyestorm is no longer authenticating any of these prints, all he did was to take them out of the frame, (if framed) and check the paper they were printed on, if he couldnt tell if it was real or not ,chances are it wasnt snide, it,s a very inexact science, just someones personal opinion.

WTB Damien Hirst, by Winter on Apr 26, 2008 18:49:22 GMT 1, I think someone called Ben at Eyestorm checked out my friends, he even called the printer to see if the paper was correct. I believe there is a clue to whether the are genuine in one of the spots. Apparently one of them is almost invisible on the Valium. My friends eventually bought a Valium through Eyestorm that had belonged to one of the Directors. If I was going to buy one now I would want a similar concrete provenance or I wouldn't touch one.

Jason~
I would be very leery about purchasing the Lambda prints from any source aside from Eyestorm, unless the seller agrees to have it authenticated by them before you pay. Even major auction houses like Sothebys and Christies have been faked out and had to deal with counterfeit spot prints. There are many fakes out there, a guy in CA was arrested a couple months ago for selling a bunch of them. Further, the paper is very fragile (think Banksy Flag) so they are easily subject to damage and cannot be restored. You should give thought to upping your budget some and getting an etching spot piece instead. They have lower runs and are better looking in person than the glossy Lambdas!

The Doxylamine print is £8,000 when I asked them for a price last week.
I also have an Opium that was re-certified by Eyestorm and also the framed who frames Hirst work at John Jones also knows how to authenticate them.
