I went to the opening of the ‘Mr Brainwash Art Museum’ in Beverly Hills today. It’s an ongoing exhibit- I suspect it will be there for a few months. If you have been to a Brainwash show before, you know what to expect.
There were some fun interactive pieces- made for people to post on Instagram. My favorite was a life size replica of Van Gogh’s Bedroom.
There were 3 floors of art. Most of the pieces in this show were vandalized oil paintings. Although it looks as if the oil paintings aren’t really oil paintings. They are printed on to canvas and someone has just painted on top of those. They are exactly what you would expect of a Mr Brainwash art show. It was a fun little walk through. I wasn’t sure if any of the pieces were for sale. Great way to kill 45 minutes.
I hadn’t seen any of these paintings before but at the same time— I have seen all these paintings 100 times before. Does that make sense?
Mr Brainwash was there walking around in good spirits. He was taking pictures with anyone who asked. A sign at the entrance said this show was always evolving he will probably add more pieces throughout the duration.

Even the crustiest naysayers would have to crack a smile at a lot of the pieces. Thierry was very generous with his time in taking selfies and signing shoes, shirts, babies etc. They let me tag the walls in a couple different rooms. He told us it was a soft opening so we could go wherever and take as many pics as we wanted. Better than most of the art I saw in Miami a couple weeks ago.

I’m pretty sure Mr B has been around much longer than Banksy……..I’m not a fan of some of MBWs previous works, but I do like these latest “crude oil” types. They seem to have some intelligence and thought to them rather than just a random Charlie Chaplin with graffiti for example.

Mr Brainwash Art Museum • Beverly Hills , by sleazus1slord on Dec 20, 2022 0:38:52 GMT 1, I believe MBW is about 15 years older than Banksy. They made a whole movie to explain what happened. MBW uses the same collective of staff artists that Banksy let him start using with the Life is Beautiful show in 2010. It's like if Hirst or Koons gave us their staff artists on loan and we could bring any ideas to fruition. This would explain the similarity in the works, the amount of work they are able to produce, and the evolution of MBW's ideas. To each their own, but this is what I've always thought about it since before exit was released.

Mr Brainwash Art Museum • Beverly Hills , by adam on Feb 20, 2023 16:34:43 GMT 1, As I understand it, MBW was a hanger-on filmer of undergound graffiti artists in LA. He had film of various local graffiti artists but also of Banksy, which he didn;t want floating about.
Banksy asked him for the film of him, in return he would help MBW set up as an artist. I have met him 3 times now, and once was on street of NYC and he was more candid and verified some of this.
I have a lot of early MBW stuff, its simple and looks good on walls (akin to my Pure Evil stuff).
Unfortunately he / his team churn out too much stuff too regularly, and most of it is continous derivative blends of the same 10-20 images (hearts / Chaplin / Einstein / Chimp/ paint cans / Banksy ripoffs / Monroe / cheerful slogans). And the prints are now too expensive IMO.
I think Banksy is watching from afar, laughing at the monster he helped create.
The man himself is warm and friendly, a pleasant change from the usual po-faced art world. And his exhibitions are fun.
