Security Checks / Repackaging , by Deleted on Jan 10, 2023 11:07:23 GMT 1, Interested to hear of any stories regarding large value items which have been checked and re-sealed when passing through customs. Is this fairly common practice?
I spent hours packaging up a sculpture recently, only to have it checked and re-packaged (very badly!) in 10 minutes.
Was I just unlucky?
Fortunately it arrived in one piece but the box was an absolute state.

Value doesnโt matter to them, but I wouldnโt put it past them that they are more likely to open if the value is higher.
Customs can check what they want so cannot get around that.
Even companies like Fight Logistics will repackage, but that is down to them repackaging to their specifications.

I was under the impression that physical checks are rare but maybe not.

Luckily each one was ok.

I had the dreaded repackaged tape once when I bought something from eBay. I wasnโt surprised though as the parcel absolutely stank of weed. I reckon the seller must have had a joint on the go when he wrapped it or was growing it as it was that strong.
