Beyond The Streets - Saatchi London, by Street Arted 2020 on Feb 23, 2023 4:54:34 GMT 1, I attended the BTS show in Brooklyn and in London and would like to share my thoughts on a comparison of both. The BTS show in Brooklyn was much more interactive with elaborate installations such as a tattoo parlor, Barry Mgee workshop, Bast & Paul Insect Puppet Room that you could enter and more original and physical items that you could stand near such as hundreds of old spray cans. They were both great - but definitely different vibes. I am very surprised by the lack of emphasis on the pioneers of the movement and current stars that were not given more love such as Banksy, Rammellzee, Richard Hambleton, Corn Bread, Dondi White, LA2, Keith Haring, Jean Michel-Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Lee Quinones, Queen Andrea, Blek Le Rat, Space Invader, Os Gemeos, Kaws & JR. yeah, Iโm betting the artists/artist estates you mentioned are done making Gastman cash. It feels like a cash grab, much like the LA store. BTS skateboards and posters? Photos of the whole thing donโt look so hot

Beyond The Streets - Saatchi London, by met on Feb 23, 2023 5:48:01 GMT 1, Hey there! I'm visiting London next weekend and I'm wondering if there are any other art shows besides Saatchi that are worth checking out. Got any tips on what I should see while I'm there?
My general sense is that street-art or urban-art enthusiasts often overlook or too-quickly dismiss many of the basics of the art historical canon.
For some, this may in part be down to fear or ambivalence of the unknown or the less familiar, or a certain degree of narrow-mindedness โ which can require constant efforts on our part to at least keep in check. And such efforts are not just worthwhile, they are arguably noble. They broaden our field of vision.
Art-wise, London is a treasure trove. It has phenomenal institutions that are free to visit, many of which offer audio guides/apps for context and background on periods, movements, artists or individual works.
One could easily spend a full week exploring the British Museum, for example, or half an afternoon checking out the permanent collection at the Courtauld Gallery at Somerset House.
In case you have yet to visit the National Gallery at Trafalgar Square (or haven't done so for a few years), consider that museum a must-see. It is currently undergoing renovations, but remains open to the public and should in my view be prioritised over the majority of temporary exhibitions at contemporary art galleries.
For an accessible and easily-manageable partial visit, consider the 18th and 19th century works on Level 2.
My recommendation would be Room 34, if only to see the real-life scale of Whistlejacket. And the adjoining Rooms 41 (especially for Surprised! by Rousseau); 43 (including for Bathers at Asniรจres by Seurat, and one of the Sunflowers canvases); and 44 (Cรฉzanne, Degas, Manet, Monet and more).
A large-scale painting I've recently kept coming back to is in Room 45: The Execution of Lady Jane Grey by Paul Delaroche.
Detail
Have fun in London.

The book is bigger and a lot cheaper, haven't put the contents side by side but I'd like to think there's a lot more content. I think it's a great book, a nice homage to Bรคst, who's since passed away.

I think let's give it few weeks and see if the buzz still there...They did extremely well in the opening weekend with a constant flow of people and almost any visitor came out with a book, a print, a poster or something. Having a bunch of the artists for the opening was great hopefully they still have some surprise for their 'late party'...

Beyond The Streets - Saatchi London, by redefine on Feb 23, 2023 22:07:27 GMT 1, I think it worth it. I think it's an expensive one as usually exhibitions goes for ยฃ16-18 but I think it's worth going. Obviously, having the artists around for few days was a major bonus.
Also, worth pointing out that hyenas are already on ebay reselling posters/etc (still, widely available) at double the price...

Beyond The Streets - Saatchi London, by andrewd on Mar 4, 2023 18:43:46 GMT 1, Hate? That's a strong emotion. I thought it was amusing that whilst taking great pride in the neighbourhood that they weren't able to spell the name of the gallery. If someone's dyslexic of course that's a different matter. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the exhibition. I keep popping back in as it was worth buying a membership. I'd say if anything visitor numbers are up! Queues to get in.

Beyond The Streets - Saatchi London, by lha on Mar 4, 2023 23:12:57 GMT 1, Think it was ยฃ45 and if it's online it would have to come from the US, only a hundred of these made it to the UK. You could try Le Grand Jeu, Christian is always good at getting this kind of stuff. There are a few Rubbish Puppeteers zines available on eBay. I guess that the zines have the same content as the book. The book has much more content than the Zine. Itโs bigger in size and is a hardback book. Paul said it contains most of the puppet work him and BAST did. Well worth getting hold of a copy. As @buckwurst mentioned - only 100 copies in the UK, that may change but doesnโt sound like it will. As with the Zine, the book is an edition of 1000. Paul kindly signed a copy I purchased on the preview day.

Beyond The Streets - Saatchi London, by mojo on Mar 16, 2023 23:48:39 GMT 1, Just got back from Beyond The Streets @saatchiโฆIf you havenโt been yet GO! Really enjoyed the show, took hours to take it all in and still managed to miss bits (good excuse for another visit). Loved the record store on the ground floor, my DJ mate was so nostalgic he felt like heโd time travelled. The Rubbish Puppeteers were my personal standout as Iโve always loved them, I was also blown away by the Faile room, incredible work! and the REAS aka Todd James is stunning, a lesson in colour! (That Iโm gonna riff/be inspired by)! Loved the way they coherently connected the club and fashion world of the time with all the Malcolm Mclaren, Don Letts, The Clash, Goldie stuff. Loved the Rob Del Naja (2023) work, are they for sale? Great to see Pride & Mode 2 AKA Chrome Angelz. An entire section reserved for the Beastie Boys โฆYES! Great to see Lady Pinkโs wall, met her years ago at an event, she is incredible and signed a postcard to me that I have cherished ever since. The Ralph Lauren wall was also brilliant and slightly confusing, as a long time fan of RacK Lo it took every fibre of me not to Rack itโฆhowever I am going back : ) Everyone involved should be very happy and inspired to have created such a powerful and enjoyable show. Cheers & Thank you, JOB DONE! Iโm definitely going back, and so are all people at the fashion event thingy I just went to after.
