The thing is there are millions of aspiring artists so impossible to keep up. I follow the emerging market fairly closely and I've only heard of a few, and even they're young and only just starting to cut through onto the auction scene. Few names to watch there and one or two who are already blowing up, Danielle Orchard is starting to go for big money for sure. |

I also like pictures but if I'm spending more than a ยฃ1000 on one I want to make sure I'm not pissing money away. |

Yes certain galleries generally and dare I say it auctions, Phillips offer out a lot of promising emerging artists in their online sales. I do like to see some secondary sales unless artist has good representation or has built a solid following, for some artists the opportunity has passed once they start being offered at auction but not all. I think going for totally fresh artists with no sales or representation is too much of a crap shoot and time consuming unless your a taste maker or really clued up, and Iโm not in the know enough to do this. |

I find Phillips a bit expensive, often a case of what you say about it being too late once they pop up at auction. Then again, I'm also finding fresh artists asking a lot for early pieces, ยฃ2.5k recently for a print from a debut gallery show, albeit with a run of only 3. ยฃ1.5k and I'd have bought one, not sure at ยฃ2.5k.
