The endless circle of the displaced poor and disadvantaged walking forwards, the barbed wire and state surveillance cameras as borders, the birds of free speech with the (sunflower) seeds of globalisation and mass production in their beaks. And all on a mirrored surface that shows the viewer… themselves. And then Ai Weiwei says “if there is one refugee we are all refugees.”

I also love that he remains so wholeheartedly political. No softening and no jumping on the latest cause, just goes all in.

To me this is by far the best edition release I’ve ever seen from Ai Weiwei (though the various fingers are good!) and, yeah, probably the best drop of the year so far for me. |

The two prints (Free Speech, Human Flow) are true artworks in the fullest sense: they genuine express an artistic vision and, as Robo has pointed out, use their medium in a creative, meaningful way. That is something that you rarely see these days.
