Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by topper on Apr 1, 2023 9:23:22 GMT 1, Can there even be a second market for these? I mean with respect to everyone posting their efforts above, I don't like any of them, although quite like me own attempts ;-)
Can't see anyone buying one of these knowing that it was 'created' by Dave from Stoke.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by gus on Apr 1, 2023 11:46:38 GMT 1, I quite like my Empresses. Not quite clear on what 'Empress did shit' means? Is this an artistic criticism? A financial one? Sorry, was meant to quote someone but seems I failed to. I mean did shit in terms of price go up, which I thought was the case for empress, but may be mistaken. Don't mind them personally, my main point was that some did poorly some did well price wise. No idea what these will do, but if I buy one I hope price goes up, at which time I will be a big fan of the... beautiful paintings.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by stendhal on Apr 1, 2023 12:54:58 GMT 1, All these things are made to absorb remaining excess of cash in the economy. They are nothing more than tradable securities made by a known artist. They are décorative crypto currencies. This is based on art without being art in itslef. This is clever to do, perhaps clever to buy. But please do not think you are an art collector if you buy this.

As for the buyer's input, at least everyone get something they really like. Won't be getting any cause they are just too expensive.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by zoomrider on Apr 1, 2023 13:42:09 GMT 1, Lets hope its the animals in formaldehyde.. I think there is a prudent point here. Heni seem to be churning out the artwork at present. I understand they aim to bring art to the masses but it does feel like extreme commercialism. What does it mean for the Hirst brand dishing out his signatures to anything and everything (in this case not even his “own” creation)?
people should remember that if you pass on this release it won’t be long until the next…

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by gus on Apr 1, 2023 13:44:41 GMT 1, The user input reminds me of the STIK Stamps discussion recently that some thought weren't STIK prints because he didn't personally put the things on his shoes and stand on the stamp. Then got all dark when people started selling and buying them for thousands of dollhairs. For this reason alone I will be purchasing one of these here Beautiful Paintings and hope to sell it at a later date for a number higher than the purchase price, potentially even using the forum for the sale. Godspeed.

It however raises the essential question of authorship, authentification, and original - the one issue that these raise that make them worthwile (while still being f&$king ugly)

I may have a go at printing it onto fabric at a later date.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by mojo on Apr 1, 2023 15:29:06 GMT 1, We need to work together and stop buying this crap so the bar is raised. This isn't 'art' its an activity for rich housewives who can do it with their kids... "On Saturday afternoon me and kids are going to make some Damien Hirsts for their rooms!... such a fun idea!" ...and poor aunties! Mind you to be fair the kids aren't that interested in spin paintings anymore they've advanced to CGI and animation. Kids these days ah! I'm going to correct myself here as this project IS totally CGI and the kids love it. (they're not getting one though...£)

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by cemltz on Apr 1, 2023 15:41:39 GMT 1, Cost and ultimate size of edition aside, this is in some ways the natural AI-assisted evolution of a commission piece. If I liked spin pieces (not really may thing) and had a specific design concept in mind - a specific wall, curtains, wanting seven smaller pieces in the colors of the rainbow - this would allow it. All signed by Mr. Hirst.
Controlling all of the colors within a shade of the same primary, and throwing in a white and black - you can really control what comes out.

I believe half decent art makes you question stuff... Despite being cynical towards elements of the release, it does make me consider ideals surrounding creative autonomy, as well as authorship and the digital medium etc. So as a concept its kind of interesting. A clear development in Hirsts digital escapades...
I just wish I could get onboard with the production and look and feel of them

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by d.r. perseus on Apr 1, 2023 17:26:32 GMT 1, Spin paintings always struck me as county fairish. Have your fun! Don’t forget the corn dogs. I have to agree with this 100%. I never wanted to say it out loud. I enjoy Damien Hirst as a personality, but he has to be the laziest f'ing artist that ever lived. I mean quantifiably. I remember this sort of thing from when I was ten at fairs. He upped the spin painting game from there about 10% and I have seen street artists do some wild things with this concept. My kids and I made a spinner 5 or 6 years ago and made some that weren't altogether lower quality. We could have used more dynamic colors...
I feel that at this stage in his career, Damien Hirst's work (due to his reputation and resources) should be knocking my socks off. Instead he is just coasting along until he makes it to the great unknown using advanced printers and an army of assistants.
Honestly if the algorithm allowed me to make an all white (blank) canvas I would have been interested as then it would highlight the absurdity of paying x amount of £s for a signature. It would fulfill its role as art for me.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by tomega on Apr 1, 2023 18:15:49 GMT 1, To be fair i am okay with the idea of these. Yes i get they are an easy cash grab for Hirst and Heni but it’s not just a signature on a slip of paper, there is (albeit some will say ‘minor’) outlay by Heni/Hirst with respect development/purchasing of the the app/widget that creates the image, and cost of canvases and printing etc.
One glance on ebay proves that people are willing to pay good money for posters. For example if consider Stick posters (and I’m not knocking the artist) people paying a fair whack for a folded paster that came free with a news paper and prepared to pay much more for signed version of the very same folded poster - so clearly paying more just for signature.
With Hirst’s latest release you get the opportunity to create your own artwork - okay the software is randomly creating images but you get to select the one you like most ie it satisfies your visual thirst or maybe you are someone who likes their art to match your curtains or furnishings or perhaps your wife or children had some input with respect the design chosen and colours used. But end result is you’ve selected something you like! Then to top it all, one of the world’s most regarded living artist’s signs the work - why? well because it’s based on work he is known for producing (and yes not the first to do it) and it’s his latest idea for creating art - so what isn’t there to like about that?
But yes, many of you have a point about paying for a signature. However, I see it as much more than that, just as buying a signed book isn’t the same as simply paying for a signature (it’s the whole package, book (content) and signature).
I am figuring that if i go for the smallest canvas option then I am likely paying not much more than some may pay for a Hirst signature but I am also getting summit I really like and that I played a very minor role in creating (pressing generate after selecting the design and colours). Had Warhol thought of this in his time it would be in the art history books. For me art is a rather simple matter, I either like summit or I don’t and in this case I’ll certainly be selecting an image I like. Also the work will have Hirst’s signature which is no different to him putting his name on a so called original that his assistants created.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by Acme Thunderer on Apr 1, 2023 18:42:50 GMT 1, There shouldn’t be much to moan about this release as it has been very well thought out, but people are still finding a way if they dislike Hirst / Heni.
The concept is creating your own artwork, based spin paintings and Heni have created a very impressive platform that enables you do this - there has been a lot of investment to create this platform for a 10 day timed release.
If you like the spin painting you created - great. If you don’t like it - try again. If you don’t like spin paintings - it shouldn’t worry you.
Since the underwhelming Invader release, Heni appear to have listened, and I’m glad there are four different sizes and a choice of round or square. I’m sure the colours will be very vibrant once printed (as they have preselected vibrant colours), and while I am not a fan of giclee’s, there are limited options for a digitally created artwork.
The prices are a bit high, but if they were lower, then people would moan that the edition size is too high. It looks like Heni have struck the right balance.
Hirst wouldn’t put his signature on it, if wasn’t going to be accurate reflections of the spin paintings. Having looked at some of the earlier spin paintings, I actually think the digital versions look just as impressive, if not better as you can choose what you like.
In summary, I think Heni have done a good job so far on this release. I’m on the fence whether to get one, but swaying towards getting a 23cm round canvas to display in an acrylic box frame so can be on the wall or on a bookcase/cabinet.
Of the images that Heni have released so far, this is my favourite.

Agreed. Heni can offer edition of 1000 for $1k but cannot offer open edition for 1k cause everyone would buy 10.
There shouldn’t be much to moan about this release as it has been very well thought out, but people are still finding a way if they dislike Hirst / Heni.
