Very Special "The Currency" tender selling at auction , by elzerman on Apr 7, 2023 9:04:13 GMT 1, Here's a story about how this Forum can take you places you never thought possible.
In December 2021 I was locked in my bedroom with Covid and out of boredom I thought; What if I start using the internet as an active user rather than a passive bystander. I had just gotten into modern art and had bought my first piece (a small original by South African Artist KEYA TAMA). I found this site and started reading threads, hesitant to get into the discussions too much until I felt I had more knowledge. I quickly stumbled upon the thread about Damien Hirsts The Currency (at the time in a flurry of messages about GE and the X-Mas merch) after reading up on the project I was so intrigued by the whole thing that I felt I just had to find a way to buy a tender. In January I bought "Give Me Something" as an NFT together with some friends and that's when things started happening. I'm an Artist/Producer (music) and one day in the studio I started experimenting with the HENI webpage and tried to put the titles of the tenders together as song lyrics, it proved a very interesting and functioning way of writing songs. I wrote to one of the moderators on the discord and asked if I could try and write some songs using this method and release it with my band Crying Day Care Choir through Warner Music. A day later I was in a video meeting with some big shot from HENI discussing the project. After brain storming some ideas we agreed that I could use their platform to write an Album and with Damiens Hirsts permission we could also use our tender as the record cover. Said and done, we decided to wait until burn deadline and use only the titles whose physical tender would burn, making it symbolic so that the burning titles would be born again as songs. In November 2022 we released "Give Me Something Vol.1" using over 100 tender titles exclusively put in order as lyrics. We followed it up with the release of "It's almost time for a Christmas tree" written using the same method. The project got some attention in media; METAL Magazine, EARMILK, Headliner Magazine Podcast. HENI promoted the project through their channels as well.
Oh, almost forgot, my group of friends and I decided to save the artwork from the flames and went on a trip to London to collect it in October. In January this year I was looking at it and I thought: It's given us so much, what a year, what a journey, but perhaps this is it... Being an artist isn't always the easiest with income coming and going and sitting there I realized having a piece of art that valuable on my wall didn't make sense any longer so I contacted Bukowskis who were keen to sell it. The Idea is that the sale and my stake in it could maybe fund the next Volume in the "Give Me Something" series! Again giving birth to more art! Now my biggest wish is that it ends up with someone who can cherish the story. I've gotten to know so many fantastic people through this art work and gotten so many opportunities and I'm forever grateful to this community for it. Please have a look at the auction and share to whomever you think may be interested in a truly special example from "The Currency" by Damien Hirst.
